Hello all,
I've so far been unable to track down a complete wiring diagram online, and the one previously posted elsewhere on here is now a broken image. I'm dealing with some electrical gremlins, but I've figured out that whatever it is is probably behind the center stack. I've also noticed the CIGAR relay under the rear seat gets quite hot, and I'm not using the accessory power outlets at all. I've been advised the relay shouldn't get hot without a draw, and this one gets quite hot to the touch. Also have replaced the relay to no effect.
My question is: is the CIGAR relay and 40-amp maxi fuse powering anything else of critical import? I'm thinking of just pulling them to see what happens, but I also don't want to screw anything else up. I think a previous owner had subwoofers in the trunk or some other audio upgrade, and I understand the CIGAR circuit is frequently tapped-into because of its high amperage. My working theory is something was sloppily removed over a decade ago, and now a wire is shorting or arcing behind the center stack and causing intermittent issues elsewhere as the current searches for ground.
I've had ABS and BRAKE lights illuminate/chime and then go off. Wild voltage fluctuations reported by the center display, AC and blower motors intermittently not function, climate control intermittently changing settings by itself, and a radio thinking a phantom cassette tape is being inserted and then ejected repeatedly. Most of these issues occur only after the vehicle is warm or has been driven for a bit, and it's been quite variable. Once the center display switched to metric and wouldn't respond to button input at all until I popped off the center stack bezel, and suddenly everything started working again. Sometimes pressing on the bezel and climate control module causes things to abate or act up, too.
Any advice or things to know?
Thanks!!
