"Lot Rot" FYI Recently I had a squealing/rubbing noise coming from the right front on my 01 4.0. My first thought was brakes or wheel bearing issue, but the rotors and pads were replaced at 9,200mi ago and the right hub assembly was replaced 10,000mi ago. The noise was present while driving not just during brakeing. I put her in the shop and after their test drive and inspection the problem was rust build up on the inboard edge of the rotor that was rubbing on the backing plate. They knocked down the rust and tweaked the backing plate out at the area where the rubbing was to allow for more distance.. Problem solved. My friend at the shop said that vehicles not driven regularly tend to build up rust on the rotors and new cars on the lot that sit for 2-3 months sometimes need rotors resurfaced and they call this "Lot Rot". So if you have a squealing/rubbing noise continuesly while driving you may want to check the inboard edge of the rotors for rubbing on the backing plate, just a friendly FYI from my experience.
