Hi everyone, the Aurora has recently been added to my potential list of next cars. I rarely see them in the salvage yard but I'm wondering when I do if there are any hard to find parts, or often needed but extremely expensive dealer parts that I should pre-emptively grab while I have the chance.
For either generation.
Thanks

Get inside & outside pieces of trim while you can.

Get inside & outside pieces of trim while you can. I'm finding trim really is the first to get scarce, for all sorts of older cars. Is everything mechanical still available for purchase, either from the dealer or Rockauto-type stores? I'm thinking things like control arms or subframes that don't typically need replacing but sometimes do. Windshields and other glass still replaceable?

I think that all mechanical items are still available, from Rock or places like it. As for glass, try googling that.

Depends what generation. The Torque axis engine mount is discontinued for the first generation. That's the one on the passenger side of the car near the fuse box. There is a work around posted here that involves welding and a rubber insert for a bonneville. The trim like Marc says is a good place to start. I'd imagine headlights, tailights, markers as they are unique to the Aurora. Fortunately the Aurora shares a lot of parts with other models and the G bodies. Not too sure about window glass. I hope the windshield is obtainable as mine has a small crack in it now.

If you are looking at the '95 and '97 control arms are a salvage yard only deal.

I was at the salvage yard last weekend pulling control arms from a 1984 Toyota Supra and thinking 'It's crazy that 80s cars have so many rare parts already" but obviously 90s cars are also now in the same boat, at least luxury ones that had lower volume. I feel so old

Yep, the '95 had the highest production of the Aurora models though so that's good news. They updated the control arm design I think mid-'97 or '98 at the latest.

A multifunction switch for first gens!!
You know, headlights, cruise, turn sigs, this that and everything else, with it's own custom harness going all the way down to the bottom of the steering column?
If you find one in the junkyard, Buy It Now! I spent six months trying to find one. Yes, they are repairable, but with difficulty, but when they fail, your car is essentially bricked...

I had to swap my drivers door once because a POS decided to break in, but I kept all the door pieces and window just in case

Hello, I was recently in an accident. The drivers side is completely totaled looking for a next door. Do you know of a reliable car parts place where i can purchase a complete door for the drivers side

Best place to check is salvage yard. Being so far I would suggest checking eBay

Tony in The Bahamas:
Suggest:
1) as previously noted by others check salvage yards. But maybe first check in the islands. 2) I see several salvage yards in the Miami - Ft. Lauderdale area. You could call, see if they have it & see if they'll ship it. I guess trips between the US mainland and The Bahamas may not be as easy as when I was growing up in Florida (1960's) 3) salvage yards around the rest of the US also fair game. But, cost to ship could be a lot.
