Hi, this is my second aurora. I have a 99 aurora. It over heats but stays just under the red line and doesnt cool down when fans kick in. It boils in resivour. I also do not have heat in the car. My bf thinks it's my heater core, not sure where it's at to check it. I have replaced the thermostat, hoses and water pump. It doesnt show any of the signs of the head gasket going and need help trying to figure out what it could be!

My guess: The coolant level might be low. Check that.

My bf thinks it's my heater core, not sure where it's at to check it. I have replaced the thermostat, hoses and water pump. It doesnt show any of the signs of the head gasket going and need help trying to figure out what it could be! The heater core is inside the HVAC housing (heater box) in the center of the dash. But you can check it by feeling the inlet and outlet hoses on the engine bay side where they pass through the firewall. When the engine is up to temp, the hoses should be close to the same temperature. If one is noticeably cooler, the core is restricted. But I don't think this is causing your overheating issue, I think it's a by-product of your overheating issue. You said, "It doesnt show any of the signs of the head gasket going". But the fact is overheating is one of the big 3 symptoms of a blown head gasket. If you're leaking combustion gasses into the cooling system, the extreme temperatures can boil the coolant. Steam is much less efficient at transferring heat, so your engine overheats. And you have poor heat inside the cabin. Go out in the morning and smell the coolant in the reservoir. If it smells like gasoline, you have a blown head gasket. If you're not sure, they sell test kits at any parts store. Hope I'm wrong, good luck! And welcome to the forum!
