I possibly found an electircal bug with my 2001 Aurora - I want to see if anyone else can replicate this, or if it's limited to my year, or possibly my car:
I shut the engine off during the day (rainy day to be exact) with the light set to AUTO and the fogs ON.
I returned to the car in the evening, started and turned the fogs OFF, as it was not raining any more - All exterior and interior lights turned off, despite the fact that the stalk was set to AUTO!
Setting the stalk to manual LIGHTS postion turned the lights back on, but moving up to AUTO shut the lights off again. However, turning the fogs ON while in AUTO would turn the lights on again!
At this point I turned the fogs OFF, left the lights in AUTO (the lights went out at this point) and shut the engine off. 5 seconds later I started the engine and the lights were back on in AUTO, fogs or not.
I thought this was a fluke of some kind, but it rained the next day again, so I thought It would be a similar enviroment to repeat what happende the night before. I was able to replicate the results from the day before - everything happened exactly the same.
My question is - did I find a bug, or is it a problem with my car?

I've had a few times where my "auto" lights got weirded out like that. But turning it manually "on" then back to "auto" has always fixed it for me.
I'll try your thing and see what happens. Hopefully it won't start some sequence of cursing my car... :-P

I think it may be in the daylight sensor. Either slow in reading or malfunction in reading. Do you have something on the dash?
My classic never goes off auto lights no matter what I set it to. Reads day and night just fine, just never stops doing it no matter where the lights are set. I've decided to let her have her head as she seems to insist on this issue.

Nothing on the dash but I'll try wiping the sensor down now that you mentioned it.

You'll feel it sort of click off.

Thanks omegiac, I had no idea that would do it. I'll try it tonite.
However it does ruin the fun of people coming up to you in parking lots with, "Hey buddy, you left your lights on." "No sir, I didn't. They're automatic on luxury cars."
