Is the dealership the only place to get the AC Delco filter? Can't find that model at wal-mart, checkers, autozone, napa or carquest.

i could have sworn i've seen a Fram filter or whatever is there at wal-mart when you look it up. it looked exactly like the cartridge style AC Delco. i don't they are real expensive even at the dealer.

Yea Fram is the only brand they sell and its $12. I've heard nothing but negatives about Fram filters.

$12!? yikes. i wouldn't know, but that's very possible. i'd say go to the dealer then i guess, at least they have the right part, i thought he said it was $4 from the GM dealer anyway.

I think Autozone caries some AC Delco filters. they may be able to order one in if they don't have it in stock.

A quick search of autozone.com shows the following filters available for the Aurora, as of today anyway.
3.5L V-6 STP $4.49, Fram $10.49, and K&N $19.99.
4.0L V-8 Valucraft $2.49, ACDelco $3.49, STP $4.49, Fram $4.99, Bosch $6.49, Fram Tough Guard $6.99, K&N $11.99, and Mobil1 $12.99.
Obviously there are many more filters available (cheaper too) for the 4.0L - I'm guessing the size that engine uses is much more common in general.

AcDelco Filters, made by Champion labs. Their address is on the shipping label when they come in for stock where i work. Not that great compared to a Purolator Pure One or Mobil 1 Filter. A standard (non synthetic) Purolator filter has a 96% multi-pass efficiency rating, not many other standard filters are even that good.

yea, can you even get a Mobile 1 or Purolator for a 3.5L tho? if so, where? seems like a very hard to find filter. odd design, should have been a spin-on, especially since it's 4.0 sibling is.

ok so i changed my own oil for the first time, mainly because i am switching to Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend. after getting the correct filter wrench, i got an import one which adjusts and then tightens as you turn it, and it wasn't too bad. had to drive up on some boards at first, to gain enough clearance to get the plug, and filter loose. then i backed up onto an incline, and it allowed the oil to flow perfectly. luckily, i don't need alot of room, and i have pretty long arms, so i was able to do the rest without putting it on ramps, which i tried and kinda scraped up the bottom of my fender , or jacking up the rear of the car. i used a STP filter, from Autozone, and my only observation is that the bottom of the filter seems to not fit as nicely as the AC Delco one that the dealer used. after a bit of figiting, i got it to fit and it appears fine, as it was a list filter for the Aurora. i plan on using AC Delco in the future to avoid this problem and any others that may result from it. Cost: almost the same as the dealer's 29.99 oil change, and i'm now using a part synthetic.

through one failed oil change, days of searching, and two wrong cap wrenches i have found out that the 99-02 intrigue and 01-02 aurora need a special cap wrench to get the cartridge case off the car. everywhere has told me any 75mm cap wrench will work, and they were all wrong. it seems anyone can work in a parts store.
at autozone part number 25407. OEM/74 mm. oil filter "I" cap wrench. must be 74mm with 15 flutes. i'll try it out tomorrow and report back.

The 75/78 one that Walmart had on the rack when I went there works perfect on the 3.5 in the Intrigue. A bonus - says Made in USA on it and is under $5.00.

First oil change for the aurora since I bought it. 131088. Bought at 124500. Was going to mention the "I" filter wrench size, but already on here. 74/76-15 flutes from advance also works. How do I know? Because some ham-handed doofus did it last and I broke the center out of only two that autozone had - very crappy spot welds, but should keep someone from over tightening. Advance's 75/77 doesn't fit - Autozone's claims to be 75/77. But the 74/76 worked. Took an extension on ratchet handle to get drain plug out also. But everything is torqued to 25 ft/lbs now.
Didn't use ramps because I wanted to rotate tires - 4 jackstands.
But not too bad if not for previous mechanic.
