Recently I have been biten by the mod bug and felt the need for some speed.
As you can see in my sig, my car is not really stock anymore, it doesnt look stock, doesnt sound stock and moves a lot faster then stock, however, its insatiable and its wonderful!
RSM racing is a performance shop specializing in GM vehicles. I gave them a call last Wednesday and they seemed very eager to do business. Once I told them I had done a few things to my car they seemed even more interested. See the Aurora is not the typical car to modify. The market really doenst want it. BUT RSM still has the hardware to make your Aurora a killer car.
So I drove 1/2hr north to see them. I was greeting very cordially and given a sweet tour. They also gave me some free goodies. 2 RSM racing.com decals, a handful of RSM Aurora post cards, and 2 magazines, as well as a sneak peak at the newest RSM creation...which I promised I wouldnt tell.
Put it this way, if you have a CTS, and want to keep up with the new LS1 CTS-V, call RSM...lol
Anyhow, we set up a day for my 80mm TB install, as well as a bore out of the intake manifold to ensure continious 80mm flow into the intake manifold.
We also had an interesting talk about air intakes. Specifically the debate about Auroras and air temperature. The debate is as such. The L47 engine gets so hot that the air in the bay that gets sucked into the intake is to hot resulting in HP loss. Logical reasoning because the stock airbox is fed air from underneath and its pretty well protected. Well, remember this is a 32valve V8 engiee with 4 valves per cylinder. This engine NEEDS air and in this case, volume > density.
So, the more air that gets in, the better. Essentially thats why the airbox gut is so popular. MORE AIR!!
They use a massive powdercoated pipe complete with IAT hole, and slap on a K&N cone filter and locate it as close to the stock airbox location as possible.
We talked about CAI and a box option. They CAN design a box, but then you are restricting air intake. The only way to get true cold air is to cut a hole in the bumper or hood, and for sure I wont be doing that!
We are also installing 3 new engine mounts to reduce movement with the engine and transmission. Its labour intensive but you regain a LOT of lost HP. 15 lb/fts in total.
They were disappointed that I went with a Magnaflow exhaust and not theres, but I am a Magnaflow man that Magger produces the best performance numbers (short of Corsa of course). All was forgiven when they heard my cat back exhaust! ;D
So, this is whats happening with my car
80mm Throttle body/intake manifold bore out
RSM intake
RSM alloy engine/trans mounts
RSM/KYB lowering kit (next summer)
I may do a dry 50 shot of nitrous, we'll see.
Not your fathers Oldsmobile anymore
