Well my son and I did the air box mod. (gutted out the baffle is all) sounds good. Changed oil and filter, and cleaned the throttle body (on the car, didn't trust myself to take it off.) The throttle body was so bad I had a hard time figuring out why it ran so well. It was so varnished up it was fuzzy on the back of the butterfly. Took almost a whole can of throttle body cleaner and 35 to 45 minutes of spraying and scrubbing with a tooth brush. The car started hard after we were done because of all the cleaner I sprayed in there. It ran rough once it started for about a minute then smoothed out and ran smoother than it ever did. Hopefully all that cleaner didn't hurt anything. Well so much for my experience. Hopefully this was were it should go, feel free to move it JimW or Amanda if it is the wrong place.

Actually Jim I took whiny to be a negative thing. It has a very awesome sound when it starts to rev higher. You can here the engine a lot better. Maybe that is what you meant by whiny. It has a more throaty sound to it now than before I took out the baffle.

hockeydad, have you noticed any difference in your gas mileage since the airbox mod? I'd still like to do this, but I'm afraid of losing fuel effeciency. I know in theory the engine should become MORE effecient, but I remember a thread of the opposite result happening after gutting an airbox. Just curious about that, post an update when you have it!

scottydl, my son says he has not noticed any difference in mileage at this time but we could have done a few things that improved mileage and would have offset the decrease in mileage if the air box mod indeed causes a decrease in mileage which I don't think it did on his car. We put in a new air cleaner (other one FILTHY) and really cleaned the throttle body well. (as well as we could on the car.) These things could definitely improve gas mileage.
