Here's a question for anyone who may be interested: Does anyone know if there is a better or preferred time to use the "Power" button that's located on the shifter knob? I can't remember the last time I used it, but I remember I could never detect any difference in performance. Is it intended for use while towing or climbing steep terrain?

It delays shifts up, and shifts down are earlier. The major difference is to fuel economy

Thanks! Based on your reply it sounds like a feature that would be useful when towing (which I don't do) or climbing. Otherwise, leave it alone. I definitely don't need to reduce my mileage. I filled it up yesterday and it cost me $30.00!

actually i think the button is called "selectable shift". it actually gives the car extra power... i use it when i want to "race" someone at a light... dred98 is correct, it changes the shift pattern on the trans....i think it makes for worse mpg, but its fun to use !!!!!

Yeah, it seems to hold the shift to round about 200 rpm higher. Varies with throttle position. Crazy as it seems, I think I get better acceleration with the normal setting. Factor in that I almost never "floor it" and goosing it for me usually amounts to 3/4 throttle. Probable effect is from mid range torque curve being so broad. Performance shift setting does work great for hilly terrain.

i've heard from a few sources saying that it actually makes no difference at WOT (wide open throttle). Which is what it feels like to me, but whe i don't have it floored i can tell the difference.

Everyone is correct. It delays shifting under acceleration by 200 RPM, downshifts easier and there is no difference at WOT (wide open throttle). When I am challenged to a derby I throw er in 2nd, TC off, Power trans on ;D I'm 4 for 4 lol! *edit* oh ya, 2nd gear disables TQ management

TQ management?

Torque management.
The 4T80E is a torquey lil thing. Generates 260 lb fts at what? 4000 RPM...thats why the car gets a lil crazy at about 4200 RPM. Now its all computer and electronically maintained. I read somewhere someday way back when that when the 4T80E is in 2nd gear, torque managment is disabled.
Lemme see if I can back that up with a web search.

I don't believe anything disables torque management. It may firm the shifts up, but that's not the same. Torque management is to preserve the tranny.

I leave mine in sport at all times, i would never drive without it. As for WOT, i plant the pedal to the carpet every day, I have a tendency to do that at red lights if i am the first one off the mark, i like to get the traffic moving. LOL. Oh i hate people that take off slow, it pisses me off.
Also, unless it is raining, i ALWAYS turn off the traction control by the button. Thats the second thing down from putting on my seat belt. ;D

Steven still has excess testosterone coursing through his young veins, let him be. Young warriors ride first into battle for a reason. Older warriors have made it through the genetic selection process. ;D
However I am staying away from West Chester for the near future, at least until events reach their obvious conclusion.
Did you know Pennsylvania is the only state in the union that doesn't allow local police to use radar? They are stuck with Vascar, ESP, and patrol.

Yes I did know that PA uses local laser around here, thats why i have laser/radar detector now. As soon as a "laser" detector beeps, it means you just got caught. Laser beams don't spread out and set off your detector a half-mile in advance, like the older X-band radar does. FYI...

DERBY ?!? You Canadians are so silly And thus, Krazy Kyle sets the tone for his tenure on the ACNA... Oh thank you Krazy. Now I am not the only one here who is unfairly branded as a despicable Canadian hater. And I really LIKE Canada. The summers are so short and cold you don't have to have a separate wardrobe for winter. The mosquitos are so large that when you kill one you can eat for two or three meals. And you can always pick out the prettiest girl in the bar because shes the one with the shortest beard. I love Canada, I don't know why they call me a hater. ;D Steven Olds said: Yes I did know that PA uses local laser around here, thats why i have laser/radar detector now. Edit, Letitroll, what color is your Aurora and what year...maybe we can hook up sometime ya know Steven, when I was in PA they didn't have laser for local PDs either. Have they changed? The NJ/PA meet is still in limbo. Lets go ahead anytime. My car is posted on "My Aurora" under Mr Digital Dislexic, but the color is way more green in daylight. I'm trying to get some better 35mm pics as the digital camera crashed...literally...on a stone floor.

Okaaaaay Anyway, I wont get going my 100 reasons why Canada is vastly superior to the US List...this time ;D But back on track with the Power Trans button. It is also labelled Perform Shift on other GM cars, does the same thing. Delays shifting. Frankly its come in handy in a few occasions

heheheh you cats are funny Also good to remember: When removing the shifter for any reason, be careful, there is a wiring harness that connects the button and if you reef on the shifter then you'll potentially damage the wire/harness. Just another FYI

Actually Lettuceroll98 I thought that you had promised to stop your silliness about Canada when you apologized to me. and here you go again reminding everyone about your dealings with the french Canadians. The way they beat you in a business deal, the girl in Hull and the crabs. Take care, members may tire of your tantrums.

My subtle attempts to get this thread back on track has failed. Heres the deal. No more US vs CAN bashing regardless if its in the name of humour or not, point being, we're all the same so lets get past the effin stereotypes and chiding and move it along. Everyone has said their piece. If you want a place to go vent about how much Canada or America sucks go to www.theamericanforums.comLOCKED.
