Hey blackaurora, I have a 97 with the Flowmaster 40 Series on mine; I still have the resonator and the stock y-pipe. In my opinion, it has the nice burble of the V8 at idle, and it's not too loud on the highway, unless you go wot. What part of Ohio are you in? Close to Cinci?

well, if they already cut off the resonator, you might as well just leave it off, honestly, you don't notice a difference with mufflers on, but if you're doing straight pipes that's a different story. at least this is the case for me, i don't think it's worth paying for a resonator.

I was thinking about exhaust, like a 50 series Flowmaster DF, or Magnaflow. I can get Borla XR-1 mufflers for about the same price tho. I had my resonator removed too, it has a nice light rumble at idle. I just want to do mufflers so I can integrate my tips a little more.

It will sound fine, but it all depends on your tolerance and tastes for volume. Personally, leaving the resonators on has made for a much more enjoyable environment inside the car- volume wise, however it does not impact performance (with or without the res)

not having the resonators on, you can still carry on a conversation even on the freeway.

True Supa, but my gf can sleep in the car while we are travelling on the freeway if she wishes, with the resonators on, you get the performance as well as maintaning a humble interior volume level.

flowmaster does not make a muffler specifically for this car. When i called them back when i first got my aurora, they thought it was a 3 liter V6 and that it wouldnt sound good LMFAO.
You could do what I did, and go to a local Midas muffler shop as they can put it up on the lift for free and check out the dimensions and what kind of muffler it needs. I paid 375 for both of my mufflers installed including these crappy tips. Yes, lots of money i know. Most of it was labor, because the spot where the mufflers are is SO TIGHT.

Thats why its angled.

Hey black aurora, I just had a guy I know at car x order the flowmasters for me. They will have to bend them to make them fit. I think I got both mufflers and the stainless tips for $300.

I told ya to leave the resonator on....did you at least leave the cat coverter? seems like maybe they cut that off too.
Recommended exhaust setups
Corsa cat back (if you can afford it)
or
Rear to front
Stainless tips (easier to clean) Performance mufflers (Dynomax, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borla) Modify the T or Y split Resonator Leave the stock pipe unless it has to change (maintain stock diameter) High flow cat
Forget about downpipes and headers, no one offers em, I doubt they are truly needed.

i dunno if i can afford anything... these stupid straight pipes cost 107$ can i get resonators put back on? When I had my Flowmasters put on, the guy asked if I wanted the resonator off. I told him no, but in discussion he said it could be put back on it I wanted him to take it off just to hear what it would sound like.

and what sounded better with the flowmasters? Actually, he asked if I wanted them off, and I said no. He said it would sound good, but loud. I told him I didn't want loud. So, based on your experience, I have to believe it sounds better with the Flowmasters with the resonator on.

I had them cut off my resonator. Its not TOO loud, but its loud lol and i like it that way. When even pressing the peda light you get VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM exhaust note from undertneath the floor hehe.
I gotta get a high flow cat soon. My current stock one smells like rotten eggs or some crap, or i hope thats not anything leaking into my oil.
But Jim, i heard somewhere and even Midas told me that you arent getting THAT much benefit from a high flow cat. They said most likely you wont realize any difference except a little louder. I wonder if its worth the extra 100 bucks over here, hmm.
