What exactly is this package? I should be buying a 95 Aurora from an auction on Saturday, and want to know if this thing has it. How do I tell, what is it, etc...

Abom, the autobahn package includes V rated tires, no speed limiter, (well, 139 mph I think, correct me if I'm wrong guys), gear ratio of 3.71 versus 3.48 in the non-autobahn. The easiest way to tell if you look at the build sticker on the drivers door and it says V rated tires. Welcome aboard and good luck.

Quite true Auroralover. Here's another way quoted from dred's Aurora page: www.howardm.net/dred98/underhood.php Another way is to read the RPO list which you'll find inside the trunk - (the exact location of the list depends on the year of the car, up to 1996 it was inside the trunk liner near the antenna, and on the 1997 and up it was on the inside of the spare tire cover.) The autobahn car will have a code of QQX for the V rated tires, and a code of FV4 for the final drive ratio of 3.71.

Exactly what everyone said, and dred's page gives a great explanation. Basically, Autobahn equipped Aurora's came from the factory with: - 140mph speed limiter (as opposed to 110mph) - V-rated tires (as opposed to H-rated) - 3.71 gear ratio (as opposed to 3.48) Overall it's simply a faster model of Aurora.

but both models go up to 140 on the spedo? Or does the base one go to 110, and autobahn go 140?

108 mph on Non-Autobahn...some can push it higher, but they state 108 mph
Autobahn = What you see is what you get.

To make it look good. The Jaguar has 190 but only goes 155.
Btw, even though GM stated 108 max. I guarantee you someday i am gonna get that thing over that. When i get my ZR tires put on, that is.

How would you be able to? The engine shuts down, right?

Im not sure. I thought fuel cut-off was if you stay at 6000rpm for too long, like a stuck solenoid or something.

Steve, I would save the money ZR ratings for tires is not necessary. H rating (129mph) is plenty, esp for 108 mph governors.

Steve, I would save the money ZR ratings for tires is not necessary. H rating (129mph) is plenty, esp for 108 mph governors. The speed rating will not just affect the top speed you can safely travel. The stronger sidewalls will affect handling in a dramatic way as well. Even more so the ride. A 'Z' or 'W' rated tire will be much stiffer than an 'H' rated tire of the same construction. So there is a reason to consider higher rated ties.

True, however the ability and opportunity for us to experience that level of handling is simply not there, nor is it within the guidelines of the Highway/Traffic Acts.
Z rated does insure a higher level of build quality, but I don't think its necessary.
If you are into AutoCross or track racing, then I would invest in Z or W tires. Most of us don't subject our Auroras to that abuse.

I mean handling and ride at all speeds, even sub-legal speeds, will be affected dramaticly by choosing a higher speed rated tire. Of course you have to actual want the stiffer ride and sharper handling for this to be a benefit. Many people think 'W' and 'Z' rated tires ride like rocks and wouldn't have them. And all of this is modified by the tire we're talking about, i.e. your most excellent BFG Scorchers in 'H' rated may handle much better than another tire in 'Z' speed ratings. However the fact remains that, for example, your BFG tires in a higher speed rating, at the same inflation and on the same wheels, would handle sharper and ride firmer at all speeds. This would only be "better" if you wanted those characteristics.

I definitely have to agree with you there. To be honest, if the BFGs had a Z or W rating option, I would have gotten those, simply based on the facts that you stated.
Even if they did ride a bit hard, the suspension of our cars could absorb a lot of that impact.

I already purchased them anyway. they are right here in the garage. all i gotta do is bring em to the shop.
They werent that much more expensive....only $97 a tire for ZR vs $83 for HR.. My dads are W rated i think on his car. i will have to go out and check. I know they say ""Continental ContiSportContact 2 P285 ZERO TRACTION" and on the other bottom it says "EXTREME PERFORMANCE"
