Has anyone used these tips on their Classic before? I think I would turn them around so the word Ractive faced the ground. They are 6" wide just like the stock tips and about 4" longer. I want my tips to stick out a little. The stock tips don't stick out at all. Mine are tucked under the bumber a couple inches.

The best thing to do is to clean the black paint off the tips already on your Classic. They are stainless steel underneath that paint. I recommend ZAR paint & varnish remover, found at www.ugl.com/REMOVframes02.html Put it on with a brush, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and remove the residue with steel wool.

Yes, they look really nice and a great replacement for stock units. I've done what Marc suggested and it worked great. They end up looking just like the Ractives, albeit in the stock positions under the bumpers, and with a couple of small but deep pits still on the tips. I would imagine they also have a protective coating that's easier to clean than the stock units when the inevitable exhaust black gets on them. Why would you want them installed upside down?

Yeah, that would look kinda dorky.

I have Ractive tips, however mine are quads, not that single ellipse shape that you posted. If you want the stock look, take Marcs advise, save the money, however if you want a custom look, go for a different exhaust tip design and have it stand out a bit more.
It all depends on what you taste is.
Oh and my quad tips do stick out a bit.

The outlet on those Ractive tips have the same height and width as the stock ones. The only thing different is that they're longer. I would install them upside down because I wouldn't want people to see the word Ractive. My stock tips are in pretty rough shape. I'll have to decide soon, my mufflers have been shipped!

someone on ebay lists a pair of stainless steel exhaust tips for $90. They are just 2 elipes that slide onto the stock ones. the instructions say to drill a screw right through them into your ehaust. it will probably look pretty good, not too agressive and you can position them the way you like... i think $90 for two pieces of plain stainless steel is expensive but they are usually ended with buy it now before they hit page 1 on the aurora search. hey! guess what i found on ebay: cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4564739719&category=42611#ebayphotohosting

I have those very Ractive tips and I love them. They look just right to me. You or the exhaust shop should be able to mount them in just about any position you want. I have mine with the trademark up and aft alittle bit further than stock.

Why is your exhaust in such rough shape? I thought these exhausts last decades?

I think I'm just going to go ahead and order those Ractive tips. I think they will look really good. The only thing I was worried about was that they are about 4" longer than the stock tips. The shop should be able to make them fit.
My stock tips look like they've never been cleaned! I know they're stainless, but I swear I saw some rust on them...

Stainless steal can rust. That's why I polish the tips on my 2001 with steel wool every few days. So far, no rust.

Some info on SS: www.spiusa.com/Ref001/ferritic1.html This is the type of SS typically used in exhaust systems, is magnetic and generally contains a higher carbon content than the following grades: www.spiusa.com/Ref001/austenitic.html This grade is typically used on hi-end BBQ grills and commercial food service industry and is non-magnetic. A good kitchen knife that holds an edge extremely well will have a higher carbon content making it hard but may rust or stain; a fair trade when you consider a nice shiny knife can get dull just from the cutting board.
