If you have changed the exhaust on your Aurora, please provide as much detail as you can on it. That way we can have sort of a "ultimate" thread on exhaust upgrades. Please try to post as much info as you can, including: - Year of your car, and engine size if applicable
- Maker of system or components
- Components replaced
- Size of piping or component
- Material
- How easy or hard was it to install? What fitting was required?
- How does it sound?
Please also feel free to include anything else you think is relevant, and a photo if you'd like. If you want to include lots of photos, please make all but one of them clickable links, not inline photos, to reduce the effort to scroll through the thread. Also, feel free to edit your post with any updates on your opinion of them, happiness with them, problems encountered, or whatever. And please keep any discussion of exhaust options and such in other threads... comments or discussion posts will be deleted. Let's just keep this full of what has been done, and what worked and didn't work. Thanks!

hey everyone, well, here's my stuff: 1998 Olds Aurora, 4.0l V-8 Custom bent 2.5" pipe from the catalytic converter back. Resonator removed. mufflers removed. at one point i did have Dynomax Super turbo mufflers on but i removed them because it was too quiet. i can't get my microphone to record the sound of my exhaust right now though, it sounds all distorted. with mufflers without mufflers

- 2002 Aurora, 4.0L V8
- Corsa exhaust cat-back exhaust
- replaces resonator, mufflers, and all piping from cat-back
- 2.5" mandrel-bent piping
- all 304 stainless steel
- Installation was easy. All clamps were provided. The system used the stock mounting locations, and only required cutting the stock system past the catalytic convertor. I installed it myself, though ultimately took it to Corsa for some final fitting of the system. The clamp at the cat didn't grab as tight as it ought to.
- The sound is great. Cruising is as quiet as stock. But on throttle application, it gets somewhat loud and very burbly. It sounds more exotic than muscle-car, to me it's very befitting the Aurora.

- 1997 Classic Aurora, 4.0L Autobahn equipped.
High grade stainless steel Magnaflow Cat back exhaust
- High flow catalytic converter, new pipe to new resonator, dual F-body (ie Firebird, Camaro) SS Magnaflow mufflers and dual quad Ractive stainless tips.
- System was professionally installed at Zoro Muffler in Mississauga
- I have to confirm, however 2.5" piping sounds correct, I maintained stock sizes for all piping.
- Sound: quiet at idle, nice rumble at about 2500 RPM cruising, loud at 5000+, however the amount of engine whine is near equal to exhaust volume at high revs.

* 1995 Classic Aurora, 4.0L 3.41 gearing Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, resonator removed. * System was installed by Midas * Stock piping for now, upgrading soon * Sound: pretty quiet at idle, can only hear it if you walk around behind the car. Really nice rumble at about 2500 RPM, really loud at 4500+, but there really isnt that much whine. Interior Video: www.sitaliano.com/vids/AuroraExhaust.wmv

I'll have pics of this soon, but mine is a 1995 Aurora w/ the 4.0L obviously, no cat, no resontor, no mufflers, 2.5" pipe all the way, the only stock piece left is the "T" at the end of the system behind where the mufflers used to be, capped off with a pair of dual tipped Ansa resonator tips, sounds mean, sounds excellent at idle, higher the revs, louder it gets!

I got mine the day after Thanksgiving. I totally didn't expect to get it then. Surprise from my father. 2001 4.0 Stock pipe size No resonators Flowmaster 40 Series Nice idle and keeps its sound up to 2500 RPM. Then the engine noise overtakes the exhaust. Idling Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnWNKNqWuv8Reving Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6REZv4Tw6WkNew information on my upgrade. Apparently, there was an exhaust leak on the straight pipe up front. My mechanic noticed it while repairing other parts of the car. He patched it up for me free of charge. Tonight, I revved it and I noticed a huge difference in sound, it was a lot louder. I should update my YouTube video of it soon.

98 4.0, stock size pipe. just got magnaflow 11224 mufflers on today, kept stock tips (trying to make it look as stock as possible). Sound inside the car is very minimal... and with the resonator still on, so is the sound outside the car. I was a little dissappointed that the Aurora resonator functions so well that my straight through mufflers barely make a peep still, but I have the flow gain now, with no interior noise, so I guess I should be thankful to an extent.
I am trying to decide on removing the resonator, or finding a compatible one to swap in that will allow more flow (better sound), but I dont want to give up the quietness of the interior.
I will post pics soon of the mufflers... and see where i go from here.
if anyone has suggesitons please send me a message!

Has a nice rumble at 2500rpm's-3000rpm's then gets louder up to 4500-5000rpm's. After 5000rpm's the engine whine is equally as loud as the exhaust, maybe even a bit louder. The exhaust really doesn't sound loud, just a little mean and healthy. The sound is fantastic.

1995 Aurora 4.0L 32-valve V8. OK. Since Arkansas has zero inspections, I went up to a nearby shop and hacked off the catalytic converter, resonator, and stock mufflers. They were replaced with 2" galvanized exhaust tubing and a pair of 40 series side in/center out mufflers. They sound ok but have a BRAAAPPPPP sound when decelerating. But under acceleration they sound great. I have pictures, but can't get them to upload right now because of my slow-butt internet. Once I get into town on wifi, I will post them up as add-ons to this posting. Ed

If you are at all mechanicly inclined, the exhaust on this car is as easy to remove as you can find. (at least on my '99) Go to your local exhaust shop wit your exhaust and have them bend some 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inner diameter tube and you will have yourself a mean sound'n' rora. No mufflers needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want it to sound like a race car, do that which was posted above. I had straight pipes catback when i first got the car. It sounded sweet from a distance but when you start it up or driving below 2500rpm, you can't hear anything. If I want that kind of sound, I'll buy sports car. I drive a luxury automobile. The Aurora aint a race car but I guess that's my view.

Ah...no. It shouldn't have. I guarantee not ONE would sell at its price point when it was brand new. Not to mention how awful that car in the video sounds.

I removed the complete exhaust from my parts car and hallowed out the cat. Then I swapped it out with my Autobahns exhaust. I could definetly feel a difference. Really opened it up, response and takeoff are better. It is a tiny bit louder on the inside. And yes I will admit it. I tried painting the mufflers and tips with touch up paint. I put like 10 coats on but it didn't last very long. Looked cool when I installed it though. And yes I will be changing that lower cowl this winter. Hallowed cat! Old exhaust. New exhaust. This is what they look like today. On my Silver Aurora I have straight exhaust from the cat back. I was not happy with the exhaust work I recieved. I had a new cat put on and It was like half the size. I told them I wanted a performance cat and they said it wouldn't make a difference. It was an aftermarket cat also, so by welding that on they ruined my exhaust. I also had them replace my resonator with a straight pipe and they charged me $100 just for that. It should have cost like $20 IMO. Then I had my mufflers replaced with straight pipes at a local Midas. And they used smaller pipes, rather than larger pipes. They didn't even ask me I just thought they would use larger ones. But beside that it sounds great!!

dude that thing sounds so mean it wud save alot of ppl on the streets alot of embarrassment Having a proper exhaust will maintain the backpressure that is required to elevate performance. Stripping an exhaust system of vital components causes a loss of backpressure and renders the modification useless. Personally I can't tolerate the noise of a wide open exhaust. That particular video is horrible. The car sounds awful. Randy...whoa...cool paint job on the mufflers! High temperature paint I hope!

i'm curious as to why you actually painted your mufflers? I had 3 cans of touch up paint. I tried a little spot and then couldn't stop! I didn't use high temp paint either, so it probably won't last very long.

So what would be the best for my '01 4.0? It seems that I'm gonna have to have a little custom work done to fit anything, right?
