I think what describes the sound now is "european." I had someone mention to me that it sounds like a European luxury car. It's not too loud, and it's not too quiet. It sounds like it could be a stock exhaust on a German car. I swear it sounds better than it does on these videos. I don't think my old camcorder has the best quality, that's for sure.. Good thing I left the traction control on though.. the tires were spinning pretty good on the first clip! (until the traction control kicked in and stopped it.) media.putfile.com/October10auroraThe first clip is WOT from a stand still up to 6,500 RPM. You can hear how loud it gets near redline. The second clip is starting off at 1/4 throttle, then ending at 1/2 throttle. (got up to 3,500 RPM max) Last clip is WOT coming towards the camera up to 5,500 RPM. media.putfile.com/october10interiorInterior video. clip one is again, full throttle from a stop. (I timed the 0-60 at 8.2 seconds today.) Clip two is full throttle from 20 MPH all the way up to 95.

Have you noticed any performance change now that they are broken in a little more? It sounds good! I was thinking of FlowMasters or DynoMax for mine. Borla costs a little bit Morla than I want to spend unless I can find a deal. I'm thinkin' Ebay...

Spoiler Sidenote...
....There's guy in my neighborhood with a spoiler on a 2nd gen that has a break-light built into it. It looks like it may be off of an Intrigue but fits/looks great. Anyone know if the Intrigue spoiler fits the 2nd gen aurora?

There isn't that much of a performance change I don't think. I think throttle response has increased enough to be noticable, but it's not huge. I think if anything this is a 3-6 horsepower mod. As for the spoiler, I'm not sure if it'd fit or not on the aurora. I haven't seen that particular spoiler personally. Magnaflows sound awesome on the aurora V8. I'm not sure how they'd sound on the V6 though. The V6 and V8 sound completely different. Not that the shortstar sounds bad, you can just tell it's missing two cylinders. Jim W's 96 aurora with the magnaflows gets my vote for the best sounding Aurora I've heard. Aurora40's probably sounds great, too, although I have not heard it that well. I think flowmasters would be a little bit too loud for the Aurora though. Just keep in mind that the shortstar will never sound like the 4.0 does. It can sound good in its own ways, but it's not going to sound like a V8, or be throaty and deep..

Sounds good. It sounds like your stock clips, except a bit throatier and a bit more volume. Do you still have the resonance issue you were having?

|
Post by Custom88 on Oct 10, 2005 15:39:06 GMT -6
The resonance is still there, but luckily it's confined to only between 50 and 60 MPH. (speed limits of most the roads I drive on. lol) If I go any slower than 50 MPH, or go above 60 I can't hear the resonance. It goes away if I leave it in 3rd gear as well. I know what you mean about the clips sounding similar to stock. You're right. Unfortunately the camera isn't picking up the sound very accurately. I assure everyone it sounds completely different in person. Stock I had no exhaust note at all. (I could only hear the intake whistling. lol) Now there's quite a bit of exhaust note.

oh, and just so you guys dont' think that I beat on my car... This is how I usually drive. Like I said a few posts earlier, the exhaust is pretty loud under light throttle all things considered. you can barely hear the engine whine. (I usually let it shift 2,500 RPM or lower when accelerating normally.) media.putfile.com/slowaccel

Sir, you were going 65mph in a 55mph zone... No it's the resonance, I can't stand it, I swear! Yeah, right, here's a ticket for $120... Before I replaced the tires in my Aurora the steering used to be jittery at exactly 60-70 - most roads I drove on were 65mph limit, so I had to drive 75-80 to drive "smoothly" and the car would even be a LOT more smooth at 90mph+ - luckily never got a ticket, though I would often cruise at 85-90 on the highway just to afford a more comfortable ride, not to mention get places quicker

Any performance muffler upgrade will yield minor improvements as they mostly have less restrictive internals. The Borlas on Dan's car sound just right for a V6, giving it a sporty European sound and yet its not overbearing.
Thanks for the props on the Magnaflow system I have...its an impressive sounding/performing exhaust setup.

Is that the intermediate steering shaft I hear clicking as you turn? Kidding.
Sounds nice. I don't know if you posted the price you paid for the exhaust or if you mind posting it...

I now see what you paid back on page 1. Seems like a reasonable price to me.

Just a note, I was up in the attic wiring up more lights in my garage. So I checked out my stock exhaust up there, and it's the same 2.5" primary and 1.75" pipe after the Y. It's also Bosal. It's possible the exhaust is the same on both cars.
How do you like the mufflers now that you've had them a while Dan?

The exhaust sounds really nice now. I'm really liking it. I guess it just needed time to break in a little bit. WIth the intake and exhaust now, this 3.5 V6 scoots along nicely. It doesn't sound ricerish at all now. It's a lot deeper than it was when I first got it. I'm almost positive that the 3.5 and 4.0 Aurora use the exact same exhaust from the converter back.

Where did you get your intake? Or did you make it yourself? Do you have any new sound clips of the exhaust now that it's broken in?

I built the intake myself. The thread on that is a little over halfway down the page. I built a box around it this past week but don't have pictures yet. Those will come later. I also had a video posted of the intake/exhaust mods together. media.putfile.com/Auroraintake

That really has a nice sound to it. Ive never heard one of the 3.5's other than in the threads here. Sounds alot healthier than the 3800 to me. Just one mans opinion.

Wow, I don't usually like anything but stock (and still prefer it , but I definetely wouldn't mind having that sound on my 3.5L.

Wow, that is very, very, similar to what mine sounds like. That "pounding" sound when the revs are up is quite prevalent on mine and you know it's a V8, but other wise, I'd say they are almost identical.
