As brain explained, expect gas mileage to plummet. Also expect to see performance go down and a possible increase in wear.

It really seems these cars LIKE to run a little hotter. I know mine runs a lot stronger when it's totally warmed up than when it's only at like 150. That, and the mileage thing...

It's only about 20o to 25o difference. I will leave it in for a while and see how it works out. Especially with summer coming up. With the air on it will probably stay around 200o anyways.

interesting. I would still agree that 180 is what the ECM is looking for, I would personally stick with something that the car brains are looking for. BTW the part number is 6368 for a 180 stat. a 195 is # 6369, Mr Gaskets numbers Now looking into this, that stat fits LS1 motors. Wonder what the difference is here. I am sure if our stat would work in another motor or the other way around manufactors would take advanage of less items to make. Again personally, what is really needed is a high flow, fail safe stat, design to work at 180. For about the same amount of $$, I would just get what is designed for our beast, but of the best quality I can for the $ spent.

I have always wondered if any aftermarket thermostat would help cool it down a bit. Mine runs at 200 constant. With the compressor off it runs at 220 or so. It seems to like the heat more than the cold.

On a very rare occasion mine will get 205ish and thats idling in the driveway. To be honest I haven't noticed much difference cold or warm as far as performance but I don't get on it unless I have to. I would recommend staying with GMs recommended thermostat rating. if you want it to run as cold as passable just leave out the thermostat .....lol just joking! ;D

Mine runs at an indicated 187~ish, right between 175 and on the gauge. Got about 223,600 miles on her too. Now I got put in fresh rad and thermostat in her last summer. Flushed it out and running 50% Dex and distill water. Oh ya, got a pint of water wetter. This reading is at speed, 50 to 90 in I-15 in todays spring weather (upper 60's) All winter long, this was the readings for her.
Now with that stated, short sitting time, lower speed, ya the temp rises to 200 and then some. Longer sitting or slow stop and go. right at 220 and usually will stay there. If the outside temps climb above 95, then my engine temp will run at 200 and if stop and go traffic, I see 237~ish, but will drop right back down once moving again.

I have been getting to drive it a little more, it's not affecting the gas mileage any. I am getting 27,28 avg mpg on the highway, and about 18 in the city. Temp is staying around 180o on the highway and 195oto 210o in the city. When I am accelerating hard for a bit it stays in the 200o range and it's not affecting performance any. Running excellent.
