Members: would any of you be interested in a "Monthly Featured Aurora" to showcase members' rides? We've got a lot of active members now, and I'd like to start giving some attention to the nicest Auroras that are owned around here. This idea is not original, many other car forums highlight cars each month or so, Bonnevilleclub.com is one example with their "Car of the Month" (which is where I got the idea).
The way it would work is this; throughout any given month, nominations for the next months' featured car are sent via PM to staff members. Staff will then tally votes and announce a winner, whose vehicle information (including recent photos, features, mods, etc.) will be featured in a stickied post for that entire month. I think "Aurora Showroom" would be a great place to put it. After that month, the post will be unstickied but saved in the archives and that member can post a link in their signature if they desire.
Just something I've been thinking about... post some ideas, and if that sounds good then we can use this month of April to vote for the May 2006 Featured Aurora!

great idea !!!!! but what would the nominations be based on ? would we all have to post pictures first so everyone can decide whose car to nominate ?

Very cool idea. Definitely thumbs up there. Question on how effective just PM staff will be though. Not everyone knows everyone's car, esp. the newer member's who have yet to post in the showroom, or some of the older members that their's is back on like page 3. What about some type of "entries thread" where you get to post your car, maybe 2-3 pics, and a paragraph description. No chatting allowed in the thread, other then the staff member's starting post, one post per member. After the winner is pick, his is deleted. Just my thoughts

Nominations can be based on how visible any given member makes his/her Aurora... the more you "show off" your ride in Aurora Showroom and other places on the board, the more it will be noticed and the more likely your Aurora will get voted for! The only problem I see with an "Entries" thread is that it might get bogged down and become many, many pages long and hard to navigate... but cutting out the discussion as 95mushroom mentioned is a good idea that would prevent a lot of that. I'd still like voting to be done via PM to a staff member, so the results are private and unknown until the 1st of each month... although perhaps the projected winner might get an early notice in case he/she wanted to take a few more pics for the "winner" thread.

Yea, the near unanimous voting is the correct idea. I think the "more you show off" will make it more of a popularity competition vs. who has the nicest Aurora. I suggested the entry thread because if that thread becomes too clogged, big deal, but everyone trying to keep their Aurora on the first page in Showroom might be a bigger problem.

yeah, I'm with RocketV8. As long as my car is featured every other month, I'm cool with whatever way you decide to do it. ;D

Sounds like a "go"! Since we already have an area of the forum for showing off your cars ( Aurora Showroom), I'd suggest that as a great way to promote the beauty of your 'rora to other members. Anyone can vote at any time by PM-ing yours truly (me, that is) with a member's name. Please put the word "vote" in your subject line. Any votes received April 1st-30th will count toward the May 2006 Featured Aurora. On (or slightly after) May 1st, I'll sticky a post naming the winner and featuring photos and specific information about their Aurora. And that process will repeat itself each month... The idea is just to get everyone involved that wants to be, and showcase some of the great-looking rides around here. Have fun with it, folks!

Hey all, let's get some more votes sent my way (if you have an opinion on whose ride should be the May 2006 Feature Aurora). See this thread for the official announcement.

Update: I've decided to slightly modify how votes are collected for MFA. If you vote for someone in any given month and their Aurora is not selected, the vote will carry over indefinitely and be added to future votes for that person. It seems fair that if an Aurora gets votes 6 months in a row (but never quite enough to be Featured) that should still count for something! And don't worry, this "ruling" doesn't change any of the past results. The July 2006 winner will be announced tomorrow!
