The memorial date of September 11th is coming up soon, and got me thinking of a way that I/we could help give back to those who lost something/someone from that day and from the events that followed. Is there a way we could set up a donation fund or something to that effect through this website that would go directly to a Sept. 11th charity?

Good thought. We might be able to set up a paypal account for donations. I'm sure we neet to do more checking into it though. Alternatively, you could send a donation to a charity of you choice.
I think I may have read/understood your question wrong?

mission008, I understand why you brought this issue up, however I do not see it as the best choice (let me explain before you think I am some heartless monster). Yes, it is very sad when inocent people die, for whatever reason. Although, donations 5 years on will not be used best for this incident. Again, yes I do sympathize for those effected, but money will not do much 5 years on. Most of the people effected were middle class or higher, and, in my opinnion, money will not be best used here. Most of the victims have recived donations (even charity groups have said to stop donating for the issue, as the money is needed elsewhere (source Red Cross)) and many have recieved insurance. Why not use the money to donate to the Red Cross/Crescent or to local youth programs, or homeless programs. These people are currently more in need of support. Many truly in need of basic neccesities to live. Again I am not trying to be heartless, I have infact donated before to 911 victims... I just do not see how more money will do much good (as most of the destruction now is mental, and thus no money can help under these circumstances). Maybe do something for the katrina victims that still have no home, as this is a more current tragedy? ?

I was personally involved in the 911 cleanup and I have to agree with the majority here mission. A very kind thought though, thank you for it. Perhaps you might donate to the Red Cross (or some other worthy organization's) general relief fund with a note, "In Remembrance of 911". That way your thoughtful gesture would be carried to newer victims of tragedy.

Or here is another thought, why not the soldiers injured in the conflicts that followed. Whether you agree with the wars, or not, there are thousands of young men and women who have been dreadfully injured in these wars. What I have read is that many have a hard time supporting themselves. I have not seen this for myself, but from what I read and what I logically assume it is an area that probably needs donation. And like Letitroll88 said, it could be a donation in remembrance, but if money is to go anywhere, it should go to people that really need it.

I don't think they are necessarily against it but rather would like to see it put to better use. I also have not thought about it in the way the others have talked about here but it definitely makes better sense for those currently in need.
