Hi everyone -
My question has to do with the nuts and bolts of posting pictures.
I tried to do my homework and searched through every section I could think of to get the answer, but it's apparently over my head because I still can't figure it out.
I just added some photos to my post (in Introductions) and they came up enormous - what I'd had in mind was that little strip of photos that appears at the bottom of members' posts. Also, how can I get a tiny photo to appear in the left-hand column under my name? Once I learn how to do this, can I go back to my photo post and make them smaller? I know big pictures are difficult for modems, sorry.
Thanks in advance for your help, Eva

well, you need to have tiny photos in order for them to show up tiny. Photobucket might have a feature to thumbnail the images, I'm not sure. The uploader integrated into the site does, it puts a small image that is hyperlinked to the larger one (or at least that's one option). It may be your mac browser doesn't play nicely with the javascript? Do you use Firefox for the mac, or Safari? Once you have the small ones hosted, you just place them on the page with no returns between, to line them up vs having them vertical: becomes: The little photo on the lefthand column under your name is your "avatar". You can set it in your profile. Click on the "profile" link at the top left of this page, then select "modify profile". You can either pick from the forum set of avatars (including some Aurora ones at the end of the list) or you can link to one you host elsewhere. It must be 100x100 pixels or less.

Wow - that was easy (once someone tells me what to do, that is!) - I do happen to use Safari, but I have backups (explorer, netscape, and firefox) for situations like this one. I took your suggestion, went in through Firefox, and voila! there was that little upload section!
What a great idea, that test forum - I should've tried it all there first. I got some thumbnails going (it was so exciting when they came up exactly as you said they would with the no-spacing thing)
One more thing: I can't figure out how to make those numbers under the thumbnail go away. Thank you for your help.

One more thing: I can't figure out how to make those numbers under the thumbnail go away. Thank you for your help. Glad to help. As far as the numbers, that's what ImageShack puts on the thumbnails. If you want a small picture without it, you'll need to shrink it yourself and upload it (link it as the full-size) or shrink it and host it yourself. The numbers aren't a big deal in a post, since it shows you how big the full-size image is. Though you wouldn't want it for an avatar.

Just upload it anywhere, copy the link and paste it in the signature exactly like you do in the posts i.e. between the [img][/img]. Example:

^^ Exactly what he said. Click on the "Profile" link at the top of the page (or click on your own username in a post and it will go to your profile), and in the "Modify Profile" page there is an area to input the text or image code that you want to appear in your sig.
