I've seen other proboard sites with different color themes, and i thought, "Why not us?" I know I can change the color of the site when I log in, but would it be possible to maybe try out some new color variations when users aren't logged in? I think we could have something a little more appealing than the standard yellow and black.
Just a thought.

Excellent suggestion. To me the colors look like Halloween or Black & Decker.

Black & Decker is good stuff... at least is used to be. I'm sure it can be done, and this topic has come up before but IIRC we kept the default colors because so many people are used to them and prefer it that way. I'm one of them (I don't change the skin when I log in), but I'm not opposed to something a little different if enough people don't like the current setup.

Maybe like relevant time of the year colors? Red and green for Christmas, Orange and Black for Halloween, maybe a greenish/blue for spring time?

B & D is pretty good, esp. their top end stuff, not the Kmart grade! But, it does look gloomy

Maybe like relevant time of the year colors? Red and green for Christmas, Orange and Black for Halloween, maybe a greenish/blue for spring time? Hahaha! "Here at ACNA, we are not only enthusiasts of the Oldsmobile Aurora... but we are also seasonally aware!" ;D Sorry that just struck me kinda funny. The issue with changing colors is that there are a LOT of colors to change around. Page background color/image, board background color, table header background color, subject/subheader background color, standard text color, link text color, etc etc. And from a design perspective, you have to make sure all of those colors blend well together and don't clash and look nasty. It would take a LOT of trial and error to get a color combination that works, that many people may not like. Change the colors often and that problem multiplies itself. Remember there is at least one (maybe more?) other "skin" that you can apply in your profile, if you want lighter colors.

Silly newbies! My color scheme is red and white ;D
Go to Profile at the top of the page, then click on Modify Profile, scroll down to SKIN, you'll see a pull down menu with color options.
Rock it.
Oh and yer welcome!

Thank you Jimmy.
I tried out some options and went back screaming to the default. Whew, that's over now, back home.

This has come up in the past. There are people who like the default color scheme, so I suspect we'll keep it. However, as mentioned, there are two other color choices. A blue/white and a red/white scheme. There are also narrower versions of each for folks with low-resolution or small monitors (there were complaints about that at the time as well). You can change your color scheme by changing skins in your profile: - Select "profile" from the top nav bar
- Select "Modify Profile" from the profile nav bar
- Under the category "Account Preferences" there is a selection called "Select Skin"
- Simply change this to the desired skin, and on the bottom of the page, click the "Modify Profile" button
Is there some other color scheme you'd like to see? As far as the holiday/calendar themed ones, I suspect people who like the default would find that quite annoying. Also the management tools for the skins are not great. There's no way to change which skin is the default, so someone would have to expend a lot of effort changing the default skin settings each time.

Here's the blue/white theme: And the red/white theme: If you want some kind of green/blue spring thing, I or one of the other admins could take a look. But maybe these existing ones will do it for you?
