"it won't let me" ... could you be a little more specific on exactly what you're trying and what (if any) error messages you are receiving? I'm guessing you are probably violating one of the rules listed for custom avatars. From the profile page: If you would like to use your own custom avatar, enter the full http:// URL to it in this box. You can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar. Avatars must be no more than 100x100 pixels. So you must resize the photo to be smaller than 100x100 pixels before attempting to upload it. This is can be done pretty easily in just about any graphics program. Don't make it exactly 100x100 or chances are the photo will end up with distorted proportions (as I see here often on members' avatars). For instance, a photo originally at a resolution of 800x600 would look good at 80x60 or 100x75 ... as long as the length-width relationship stays the same. Don't worry, most graphics programs do this math for you when you resize.

I have the address for the picture from photobucket or myspace lets say, I copy and paste and resize the picture to the 100X75 and nothing appears. I have tried this numerous times now and it will not let me post a new avatar. I never had this problem before.

Trying to get the Avatar to except it and it will not. I set it at 100X75 and it just erases itself and I have to start over.

You are using a huge photo though, and resizing it to 100x75. It would be nicer to other users to resize it first, then upload it. Otherwise people have to download a 600x450 image and then have their browser scale it down.

The pic does look alittle wierd now that U say that. How do I do that? Here you go: It's not a very good photo for an avatar, though. Once shrunk it is very hard to tell what it is a picture of. That picture might go better in a signature:

Yeah, you need something that is essentially square (hence the 100x100 or so) once you crop out the unneeded parts of the photo (grass below the cars and trees above the cars, as A40 did). Photo posting tip in general... you want the image to be FILLED with the purpose of your photo, not taken up by a bunch of empty space. See our avatars and sigs for examples of this.

How can I employ this as my sig? I like what A40 did... Can I use that? Sorry for being illiterate in this area!

Go into "modify profile" and copy the img script from before into your signature.

However, I went ahead and updated your signature for you. I can undo it if you prefer, and you can always go and edit it if you want to change it. Just trying to be helpful.

I reduced the size of that sig photo just a tad, so it would fall within the 500x150 pixel limitation. Great looking photo by the way! I always get strange looks when I'm out in public somewhere photographing my car. ;D

I couldn't remember what the sig limit was. I knew it was 5ish to 1ish. Is it in a sticky? A few times I've tried to find it and didn't (which doesn't mean it isn't there).
