I could have a local wheel shop grind down and seal the edges at $100 per wheel. Would you be able to do this yourself? Has there been anything with the seller? His only saving grace is that he's not a wheel wholesalers, might not know a whole lot about rims. Don't immediately leave negative feedback. Talk to the guy and sell what they would like to do and go from there. You bought a product that wasn't near the condition as described, hell, they wouldn't even work.

I don't think anyone could just do it at home. The chrome will need to be sealed on the edge so it doesn't start flaking more.
My friend suggested filing a complaint with Paypal, then letting him know. I said isn't that unfair. He (who's a big time ebay seller) said nope, the wheels were in no way the condition he stated. Another thing, if you deal in car parts on a regular basis, don't you think he should have known the difference between polished and chrome?
Oh, how I wish they were just polished. There wouldn't be any problem with the tires leaking.

Ooooh, I didn't realize they were that bad. Yeah you should definitely not spend any of your own money refinishing those wheels... contact the seller with your complaint, and see if that gets you anywhere. If not, file the necessary complaints with Paypal/eBay as appropriate and you'll hopefully get most of your money back. Good luck, keep us updated! Oh what we'll do for chrome!! Edit: also, if you paid with a credit/debit card thru Paypal you should report the incident and dispute the charge with the appropriate bank. That is another level of protection you have against fraudulent sellers & products.

Well, it's been all day and I haven't gotten a response so I sent another email. I'll wait until tomorrow but it looks like this guy doesn't really care. It would be nice if he refunded my money and told me to keep the wheels. I'd use the cash to have them grinded so I could use them.

In the spirit of full disclosure, an honest seller would have posted a photo of the corroded parts. I hope you get your money back. When you email him, include a deadline for a response, and don't let him delay until PayPal's time window for disputes expires. Can you track down a phone number for the seller? Sometimes the UPS or FedEx shipping label will have a phone number.

You can also request a seller's address and phone number through eBay if you have completed a transaction with them. Also if you go to the feedback center and type in like you're going to leave negative feedback for a seller, a few links should pop up on different ways to resolve the issue. If you do a triple-reporting with eBay, Paypal, and your credit card co., that should get the ball rolling.

Hmm, i might do that. I didn't give him a deadline but sent another email today. I also looked up the phone number and address on www.anywho.com Avenue Auto Wrecking in Kansas City, MO. I wonder if I should just start the paypal and ebay claim filing. Thanks for everyones help. I was so excited to get these stupid wheels too.

Well, i just called and spoke to them. The guy said he would like me to send them back and he would refund all my money, including shipping. Whew! Thank goodness.
I checked and there's a set with tires on ebay right now. I'm watching those for now. I'm also going to check the local shops. Maybe I'll luck out. Anyway, thanks everyone.
[Edit] I decided to call the local wheel shop to find out how much they'd charge to fix the wheels. They said around $30 a wheel! I'm going to swing by there after work and have them give me a full estimate. Maybe the seller would be willing to pay for the repair. Worth a shot right?

Definitely, since you are certainly interested in owning those wheels. The seller would probably be happy to pay you that amount, rather than refund the full amount for what is essentially scrap metal to him. If you do send the wheels back, don't let your caution level drop... the one time I did that with a wrong eBay product (seller promised to send me the right one or refund my money) I never heard back from him. Won all my appeals but Paypal couldn't refund my money b/c HE didn't have any funds in his account. His eBay account disappeared, and I was out money AND product. So just make sure everything is documented to the T.

Well, the seller agreed to pay for the fix of the wheels. I've gotten them fixed and they're on the car!!! The wheel shop is very very fair and affordable. I was looking at their price list, very cheap! I was also meandering around the shop while they were swapping the tires to the chromies. Some of their work is pretty amazing. Polished alum wheels look like chrome. Better than any factory job I've seen. They also paint wheels which he was showing me a new color called ghost chrome.
