Closeout models, good price, I hope they look good on my car. If they are made of rubber and black in color... I think they will look great!

I say this all the time and no one cares, but if I were you I'd go to the manufacturers website and look at the rim widths that tire is designed to fit. I suspect 255 will be fine on a 7.5" rim, but better safe than sorry. Also, the rim width will affect the look. A 255 will probably look wider than your 235's, but it won't look as wide as a 255 on a 9.5" wide rim.

I believe the SSEi rims are 17"x8'" so it should be ok. The 255/50's will give the car a lower profile look while maintaining the stock tire height. That was the objective.
But yes, its critical that the rim properly fits the tire.

Well today they arrived and man these things are HUGE!..the side wall is very cool and the tread is very aggressive. Not good for winter, but mid March should be good.

JimW don't put them on yet! I think there's a safety issue with the set you got. Lucky for you, I can tell if yours has the issue or not. I can go over to your place a pick them up and install it on my car for a couple of weeks of testing to make sure they're safe. What do you say? ;D All seriousness......congrats on your purchase.

did anyone hear the rumor that the colored versions of those are illegal in California?, i'm not sure if it's true, but supposedy its because gangs used them to mark their color on their cars.

All 4 of them are 255's yes. For all 4 corners. The Scorchers are a discontinued brand, but I didnt know it was for that reason...Elan, if you look at the pic at the top, you will notice 3 smooth grooves. You had the option to get em in red, yellow or blue. I got the regular black. I'll take pics later, they are pretty cool tho. *edit* here is a small pic

I guess you gotta see them in person to "appreciate" the uniqueness they offer. I guess it's true, you do learn something everyday. ;D

Hehe, that is certainly a unique... feature. I'm not sure that a certain color of tire could be deemed *illegal*, but if gang-related may certainly get the local PD stopping your car for "other reasons" more often. Just as gang members wear certain colors, it's perfectly legal but will probably get you stopped and hassled more often.

Yowsas! That website is awesome... I love what is being done with Flash and sound clips nowadays (I just wish I had the skills to do it). But I couldn't find your exact rims... do you have a more direct link to a photo of them?

Here is a picture of the Vault Jade wheel, I think they would look kind of small for a Classic Aurora, I would go for a bigger size. [glow=red,2,300]Javi[/glow]

LOL Javi, thats because you are used to big ol 20's I find 17's work extremely well on the Classic Aurora, the low cut front fender wall is nicely proportioned for the 17's. The 2nd gen would look better with 18+ rims IMO. Anyway, I like the rims Buty, yer Aurora is coming along nicely

You might be right on that. But I was looking at the shape of the wheel and pattern, and I thought that in order to see the whole design, it would look better bigger, I mean it's a decent looking wheel, but to really see the beauty of it, for me they would look nice a bit bigger.
I do like how it has the exposed lug nut holes on that wheel, you add some nice McGard locks or even the SplineDrive locks for that extra protection.

Yes indeed, I'm using my moms Durango and/or Magic School bus (big GMC 12 seater van) to take my old 235/55/17s with the rims in em still to the shop to get them dismounted, then mounted into the new BFG's. I'll be waiting til mid March before they go on the car tho

Yeah, a totally kewl look Jimbo. The colors are great and all but Aurori are a little too refined for that. Maybe good on a Celica GT or something, good pick with the black. From the Tire Rack web site:
"Tires tested:
BFGoodrich Scorcher T/A Ultra High Performance Summer 225/40R18
Dunlop SP Sport FM901 Ultra High Performance Summer 225/40R18 Yokohama Parada Spec-2 Ultra High Performance Summer 225/40R18
Many tire manufacturers have developed specific Ultra High Performance Summer tires designed with an attitude to better meet the needs of drivers who value a tire's appearance as much as they value its performance. These tires use tread designs and styling treatments that help them stand out from the crowd by making visual statements that complement their performance capabilities.
On the road, the Scorcher T/A tires provided good noise comfort and ride quality, but couldn't quite equal the responsiveness of the other two tires.
On the track in the dry, the Scorcher T/A tires provided good cornering traction and competitive lap times, but didn't provide the responsiveness necessary to run as fast as the other two tires.
On the track in the wet, the Scorcher T/A was the fastest of the three tires, with its silica-based tread compound providing the best wet traction, cornering grip and overall lap times. "
Sounds like you have a nice riding performace tire that provides superior wet traction. Good choice with a fabulous price! Best of luck with them.

Ouch!!! Looks so good it hurts! 255 is the right width for the Aurora. (Perhaps I'll stick with my crappy Goodyears until I can afford tires and wheels) They're almost slicks on the outside third of the assymetrical tread, I'll bet they handle just fine.
BTW, what's going on in the now way too long saga of the center caps? I doubt that any chrome paint will be suitable. A dark graphite (tire color) maybe?

I feel so defeated with the centre caps right now. I'll be monitoring Ebay looking for 2001 Bonneville SSEi caps, they are all chrome with a little Pontiac decal in the centre. For now I'll live with the silverflake unless the chrome duplicolor paint strikes me as the "go to" method.
The 255's suit the car perfectly with no rubbing effects or reduced turning radius. I highly recommend any 255's especially if you are going to upgrade to a larger rim.
I'm not 100% sure that the stock 16's are wide enough. Someone else may know for sure.

Dude, why not just go and get those center caps chrome plated, I'm willing to bet that it won't be more than a bill ($100) for all for of them to get chromed.
Good luck on ebay, if they ever come up.

I've tried Javi, there is only one place in Toronto that chrome plates plastic, I called them a few times, but they wont return my call, I believe its because I'm of no value to them, $100 bucks isn't enough for them to do the work.
Plus I'm pissed they wont return the call...so unless you know someone in the US that can do it for cheap, then I'm outta luck
