Hi group: I bought 4 Olds Aurora Center Caps for the 1995 to 1999 models on eBay recently and when I received them, I noticed that the metal band on the inside of the caps are of two types. (These center caps are the stock caps, not the chrome caps.) Look at these photos that I captured from current eBay sellers: Straight Wire Metal Bands:Curved Wire Metal Bands:On the inside plastic body of these caps are the same casting numbers and year marks (1995 to 1999) so I assume these center caps are interchangeable. Is one version an early version that was later improved with a second version? If so, which is which? I plan on keeping two of these covers and selling the other two. I look forward to your comments. Most components have a date code for lot traceability. There are also other codes for material type, etc. Those round, molded in features on the back side of the part looks to me as the lot code. It may take a little to decipher but should be able to figure which one is newer...

Keep in mind that there are also a lot of replica caps out there manufactured by various companies. It is possible that some of the caps you have are OEMs and the others are replicas. Some eBay sellers may sell the parts as genuine OEM since they were pulled from stock wheels not realizing that they may actually be replicas. Just a thought. Good luck sorting it out -Shawn

How about that!? I don't have my '99 stock wheels anymore, or I'd check them to see what style of centercap they have. In your case, I'd recommend contacting the eBay seller and telling him/her that you received 2 different products and they don't all work on your car... they are obligated to make the product work (by replacement or refund), if that's how it was advertised. P.S. Might I also suggest removing your e-mail address from you signature... you may be setting yourself up for LOTS of spam. That's why the board provides the Private Message (PM) feature, and the capability for an e-mail link if desired.

Hi Group:
I pulled the three (3) center caps off of my 1995 Olds Aurora this afternoon and they were all had the straight wire metal bands.
I contacted the eBay seller who sold me my set of four (4) center caps (2 with straight wire metal bands and 2 with curved wire metal bands) and he told me:
"THEY ARE MADE BOTH WAYS. THE RING WITH THE "U" IN IT IS A NEW VERSION OF THE OTHER ONE. THEY STILL ATTACH THE SAME WAY AND LINE UP AND SNAP ON THE WHEEL"
In his posting, betonthis1 said that he had the curved wire metal bands on his 1996 Olds Aurora...so it appears the change in styles was made very early in the first generation of Olds Auroras.
