Interesting novelty. I wonder if it'll actually get to the marketplace

Marc, supposedly the most recent news from Michelin was it was a go ahead. It was in some auto mags a while ago.
The wheels remind me alot of r/c car wheels. There has to be alot of performance gains. Look at how light they look! Also the tire contact patch would always be nice and flat and large.

Say goodbye to the days of 22" rims ..hehe

There are surely a lot of variations that could be done with them. A lot of people mocked the radial tire when it was introduced and felt that there was no way you could ever get 50,000 miles out of a tire!

There looks like a major difference in the on car pics and the detail pics. The wheel says deformable in the detail, but is obviously metal on the car. I've seen this before and it is an option for increasing gas mileage I believe.

yeah, a pucture wouldn't really do anything to these tires, maybe unless it was in just the right spot where the structural pieces are.

I wonder how they corner, though? The only weight savings is the sidewalls, which is offset by the supports. In a normal tire, the support is air, which isn't all that heavy.

Conceivably, they would corner pretty well, as the whole contact patch is always on the ground (i.e. no chance of over-inflation making the patch smaller). Of course, you're right in that the supports would create extra rotational/unsprung mass, making them behave considerably differently than normal air tires, however one could assume the second picture's "Deformable Wheel" could be made of a lighter substance than aluminum alloy. This is all circumstantial, mind you.

definatley not a winter tire. Those things would get packed with snow and then you'd be having major issues. The same could probably be said for water.. They'd probably make you pull HARD to one side because the water would try to get inside the 'tire.' Maybe if a really thing, lightweight side was used it'd be fine.. But the wide open tires would not be good IMO.

Is it me, or do those wheels look small, though? I bet low-profile tires would be pretty hard to do like that. Those wheels look like 15" or so. That doesn't leave a lot of room for 12+" brakes.

You guys are missing the great environmental boon these are. These tires can rescue the earth from its total demise. Think of the Hundreds of Billions of tires that we are now using (perhaps trillions), are robbing precious clean air from all living things on the earth - can now experience a fresh new wind - deflating all of those tires will surely restore the ozone, cause all extinct creatures to reappear, cause the trees to hug us, cause aliens to send their high technology to us, make our plants grow better, end cancer, end starvation, hunger, wars, and rejuvenate our entire life as we know it! Algore must be working for Michelin!

Algore must be working for Michelin! You must have been watching the Top Flite golf ball commercial where the field goal attempt falls straight down half way to the goal post, the basketball shot falls straight down, soccer kick, javilin throw, etc, etc. Then the anouncer says, " There's only so much distance to go around...and we just took all of it. The new Top Flite...etc. etc." See it here, click on the TV spot title www.topflite.com/company/index.php#m1

Only so much air to go around. Release some from the tires. Only so much distance....ah, never mind. Where are all the golfers on this board?? Auroras= big ol' american sedan owned mostly by older males, why isn't the site full of golfers?
