I also have a 2001 4.0 & it has the stock Michelin 235/55R-17s with the H speed rating. When it's time for new tires, I'm going to get the same tires, but with a V speed rating. I found out that there is a V rated Michelin MXV4.

I found out that there is a V rated Michelin MXV4. Are you sure that's not the original Energy MXV4, not the MXV4 Plus? I don't believe there's a "Plus" in V-rated in our size. The MXV4 Plus is a newer design, it has better life and better wet-weather handling. Goodyear has some interesting new tires in our size. If you don't need all-weather, there are also some BFG tires and others in a more performance rubber. Honestly I'd have to say I'd consider some Michelin Hydroedge tires if they fit our cars (they don't, but do fit the classic) or the newer Goodyears when I need new tires. The Hydroedges have just been so good on the Regal. Goodyear's new Eagle ResponseEdge seems promising. I don't like a lot of their tires, but their Eagle line has been pretty impressive. The Assurance TripleTred is interesting, it seems like a Goodyear version of the HydroEdge.

My Lady has Pirellies on her Volvo, P9000 I think, and I don't care for them. They tend to dry out and show little cracks on the sidewall. They do seem to wear well but the ride feels harsh.
I have 60,000 mile on my TOYO Proxes now and last weekend I went to have them replaced due to the mileage and the salesman practically refused to sell me a new set; said they still had almost 50% tread left, saved me some $$ at least for now. The TOYOs are VERY long wearing, great ride and very quiet though the entire life of the tire.
The other tires I had the best luck with were Yokohama AVID. Long wearing, great ride and quiet.
I think the TOYOs are better.

we sell them at sams club on special order! you can prepay at store or order online.those michelin mxv4 plus are more expensive than they are worth. they are smooth riding tires (luxury model)they are rated for 40k but half the time they don't make it. try the bfgoodrich line they have higher mileage guarantees ,are built by michelin and are less expensive.

When I need tires, I think that I'll be looking at brands other than Michelin. But I want to get tires that have better than an H speed rating.
