I know when I detail any of my vehicles I remove the wheels so I can clean the backsides of the wheels and tires. Not just to wash and scrub them but to add protection to the rubber surface. My wife thinks this is a bit crazy and she probably is right.
Am I alone in this or are there others that are as fanatical ?

Just a little crazy... but I know you're not the only one. In fact, I think I remember an old thread of Javi's (when he still had his Aurora) in which he had photos of polishing his chrome 20" wheels front and back. Out of curiousity, what is your reason for cleaning parts of the car that nobody will ever see?

Out of curiousity, what is your reason for cleaning parts of the car that nobody will ever see? Basically to get the brake dust build up and road grime off the wheels and tires and to treat the rubber so it doesn't dry out. Plus I feel better knowing they are as clean as the rest of the car. I mean when you wash you wash even the things others will not see !! Just in case your in an accident or something.

I clean my 2001's wheels once a week & then shine them with a towel. I had put Meguiar's ColorX on them more than a year and a half ago, and that has given them an excellent shine which has lasted all that time.

LOL now that's funny... well not being in an accident, but I can see the headlines now. "algonquin's Aurora was involved in an unfortunate rollover earlier today... luckily nobody was injured, but further examination of the backsides of the tires and wheels (only visible because the vehicle was upside down) revealed a *startling* discovery! The "dirty details" tonight at 10." ;D

LOL Scott! I clean the inside of my rims and tires when I swap em out. For a standard cleaning episode, I don't bother cleaning the insides of the tires much But at the end of a winter/summer season, a good spit shine is definitely required. Algonquin, yer "borderline" crazy
