I have a new key fob to replace one that was lost in a bar one night.
Now the next question is how do I go about programming this key fob to work with my car?

Programming procedure from the 2001 shop manual. The only problem here is that you need a scan tool to use this method........................................................ _________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

"Program mode" as mentioned in the manual can be achieved (without a scantool) by connecting slot #4 and #8 on your OBD-II connector with a jumper wire or paper clip, before turning on the key (as mentioned in the BC Techinfo link). Your OBD-II connector looks like this: Just bend a paper clip into a U-shape, and connect #4 and #8. Turn the key on, and your locks should cycle once (lock and then unlock). That means you're in "program mode". Then you are good to go with the rest of the procedure. (Alternatively, you can take your car to a dealer and pay them $20-70 for the same thing. ) Let us know how it works out!

Hey, I have done this method. However, It only lets you program 2 key fobs and no more. Is this the same with your experiences?

It should (though I've never checked mine), all Auroras used OBD-II connectors, 95's just have OBD-I computers.

None of them are numbered, just pay attention to the shape of the connecter and count the number of holes. If yours doesn't look like that, then you're looking at the wrong thing.

You are quite correct, that is a picture of an ODB-1 connector. I will try to post a pic of the correct one. On a side thought, this programming routine for the remotes is NOT the same on all the cars. Different vehicles can be different(not all use a jumper on the DLC, some tell you to hold the lock button on the door with the key on, or other ways), and most all newer cars require a scan tool. Aurora Gen2's do.

Picture upload isn't working, but the row that is wider on an ODB-2 connector is the top, and pins 1-8 go across the top.
This is the programming procedure for a gen 1 Aurora.
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch. 2. Use a fused jumper wire in order to jumper the Data Line Connector terminal 8 (BLK/WHT) to terminal 4 (BLK). 3. Close all of the doors. 4. Turn ON the ignition switch. The doors will cycle to lock. 5. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters: 6. - LOCK - UNLOCK
7. After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock. 8. In order to program extra transmitters, repeat Step 5. Important: Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative. 9. Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC.

I tried it out on my '95 and when I jump 8 & 4 it cucles the locks but when I turn the key it doesn't lock the doors. I went through the process anyway and it didn't work. Is there a simple reason why it didn't lock when I turned the key?

I tried this on two fobs I bought on ebay - initially without success. I first noted that my under- the -driverside-dash ODB connector was not parallel to the front of the car as is depicted in most of the diagrams. In my 95, under a small sliding door and it is perpendicular to the front of the car. To hook up my jump wire, I was counting from the back (1) toward the front (8), and I was connecting the #4 to the #8 - - the doorlocks did not cycle, nothing happened.
Eventually I tried counting from the front of the car (1) toward the back (8), connecting #4 to #8, and it worked perfectly.
I hope this helps another 95'er out there.

This is a crude diagram I drew. Of course you will be on the front floorboard on your back with your head pointing toward the front of the car looking up at this.

The 1 and 2 designations on remotes are for YOUR reference. The remotes are the same in function, but the car looks at them differently for what your personalized setttings are... seats, mirrors, etc. The numbers on the back are so that you don't get them mixed up.

Ok, Well something broke on the stock "Remote 2", so I got a replacement remote, so now all I need to do is connect the #4 and #8 slots on the OBD-II with a paper clip and follow those programming steps listed in the 2001 shop manual?

Sorry I don't want to seem like an idiot, but I want to make sure I am doing this right. I took a paperclip and attached it to the positions on the top row, the first on the fourth "spot" in and the other on the slot all the way to the right. then I turned the ignition to ON and held the unlock-lock buttons, and nothing happened. Do you need to turn the engine on? what am I missing? This is a second gen, fyi. here is a pic of the OBD: thanks again!

I have got a. Fob from a gp is it programable for the aurora? If the FCC ID matches, then it will work. Otherwise it won't. Many GM keyfobs are interchangeable (one of mine for the Aurora is from my old '98 Bonneville), but generally the model years need to be close for the FCC ID's to match.
