So, my daughter is looking for housing for next year. We went into Chicago to look at some places. I still can't get over the prices. Anyway, here are some statistics of my little trip. 160 miles round trip According to the DIC23.5 mpg 6.4 gallons 40 mph average speed actually I reset the tripometer at home but reset everything else at the gas station about 10 miles away, so if you are checking my math...forget it The traffic was horrible, it took over 2 hours to get downtown and about the same back which really dropped the mpg's and speed. On a good day (according to the DIC) I get 26-28 mpg's at an average speed of 50-55 on the same trip. Oh, did I mention I got pulled over by a State Trooper....female

Decent considering the traffic. It's not terrible I wish I would get pulled over by a female state trooper. I must admit that Illinois has some of the hottest female troopers. Mid 50's, sun damaged skin, butch hair...How would you know? You must get pulled over quite regularly, hmmm... Alright, what did you get pulled over for, driving to slow? I think she was pissed because I passed her ;D What is the friggin' speed limit on 90 anyway? This is how it went. Going thru the toll in Elgin, I see her pull out just a couple cars in front of me. I am following in the same lane for 10 miles or more, during which time the 2 cars between us pull over. So now I am directly behind and we are going 70 the whole way. She changes to the next lane over and slows down...lol...I continue to go 70 and pass her, very slowly but I pass her...lol At this point I decide to move over also, as soon as I get around a jeep. Immediately she changes lanes and comes up behind me with the lights and I pull over. For those who are familiar with the area, we are about 1 mile short of the Des Plaines Oasis, must be between 15 and 20 miles of the Elgin toll. She comes up to the car and say license and insurance and I give them to her. She briefly looks at them and say "What's the speed limit?" I say "65." she says "what's the speed limit?" I am thinking did she not hear me, does she want me to...lol...salute her and say "65 MA'AM" so, again I say "65." Well apparently the speed limit is 55 ;D She asked where I was going? How often do I drive on this road? Is this my daughter with me? She said to my daughter something like, I see you are reading but maybe you should watch the road for your mom since she can't seem to do it ;D She asked what we were going into Chicago for and told my daughter good luck with school. Then handed me my license and insurance card while turning her head (which I thought was waaaay out of character for this woman anyway) Anyway, we pulled into the Oasis for some iced coffee and let that cop get out of range and of course the first thing my daughter did was call dad and her brother ;D I had told my daughter earlier how I had been pulled over and let go in the past but the one time I didn't get off it was a woman state trooper. The daughter said maybe she was interested, who knows My daughter decided to text all her friends and take a poll about what the speed limit is on 90. Now I had no idea she was doing this until her phone kept chiming every 20 seconds and she is cracking up. I think she said she sent a text to 26 or 27 people and of the responses she got back about 80% said 65. We didn't count the one who said the speed limit was 84ish ;D and my son was the only one who had it correct...55 or 65 depending on where you are at - BINGO. we were watching the signs very closely on the way home I have to say, my daughter and I were laughing about it for hours. She said it really made the day fun ;D We would just start laughing out of no where and of course we both knew why.

Kay, you got the hots for a yopung Aurora cop and you got a female state trooper that has the hots for you, it's like a Soap Opera. ;D I think it turns into 55 a couple miles west of Randall Rd. or right at it. And Kay, I am knocking on wood when I type this. I haven't been pulled over in 8 years. If I do get pulled over by McHotty Trooper, you gotta love a woman with cuffs.

Illinois State Troopers ain't all bad, once they put on that "Smokey Bear" hat, you're probably gettin' ticketed at least. Was on I-55 south of Springfield headed west with the cruise set at 85 or so when we came up on a rather ratty lookin' Camaro travelin in the left lane, flashed to pas when my brother (AZ DPS) says, State Cop car, check the plates. He moved as we crept by at 75 then he bailed at the next ramp. But what surprised me was how ratty that Camaro looked, all dirty, kinda primer black lookin, steel rims and stealthy lights. Just glad didn't get no tix.

**Warning** Hurricane Kay, and daughter, are headed to Chicago today. I just hope this trip is less eventful than the last trip ;D . I have a feeling it's going to be a long day, the daughter just informed me we have to leave about an hour later than originally planned (which means more like 2 hours )...she's not quite packed . She did mention she is taking way too many shoes, which I found pretty funny. Where does she get this from? She said her blue trunk was full of just shoes... what is she going to school for again? ;D ;D ;D Girls I'll take more pix as we load the car, just don't accuse me of Aurora abuse ...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Oldsnut ;D

Got my daughter to school. She did have to "edit" some items (shoes) however she did manage to take 12 pair ;D . We were suppose to take off at 11am, at about 10am she changed that to noon and we were on our way by 1:45 ;D Oh well. Traffic was not terrible and we made it downtown about 3:30...of course we had to stop at the oasis for an iced coffee . We got her checked in and unloaded (she will unpack and organize herself tonight and tomorrow) and were sitting in her favorite pizza place by 6pm. I told her to order what ever she liked since she would be the one taking the left overs. We had salad, bruschetta bravo (<--delish) and something I have never had before, Hawaiian pizza. It's not bad but I don't think I would order it again. Left Chicago at 7:10, stopped at the oasis again, and was back home by 8:30 ....that's pretty good time and, no, no state trooper this trip . Here are some highlights... The car, not too bad this trip. However, last year she came home 3 of the first 4 weekends, so I am sure we will be taking plenty more. Michigan Avenue. Interesting, probably for the parade ;D The view Her Apartment Best view yet ;D We sure will miss our little girl but on the up side we can run thru the house naked ;D I hope the neighbors don't complain.........again ;D

Looks to be a great apartment! How many sq. ft? Not bad for student housing. I don't know the square footage, but it is a 4 bedroom 2 bath for 4 students. Not the norm for a dorm . Pretty decent living/kitchen area (partially pictured) with stove, microwave, frig, and dishwasher. The building has nice amenities too, laundry, game room, music/art/photo studios, cafeteria, work-out rooms, etc. My favorite amenity would be SECURITY ;D . The nice thing about her apartment is that view and all the light, the draw back is the noise but you somewhat get use to that. Thank God I don't live there though, the $3600/month would give me a heart attack . I forgot to mention, the car did great and 26mpg, average speed 53.

Very nice place, makes the dorm rooms I experienced look like the projects. ahhh, yeah, no, we don't tote the whole bill. I also found out I was wrong on the price, that was last years price, this year it works out to just over $1000./person/month. That's more than the PITI on our house . Not to mention the cost of everything else, why just the iced coffee was about 20% higher in Chicago . It's definitely not the old dorms, her room is almost the size of her bedroom at home. Her roommate last year had a queen size bed. She has never shared a room in her life and she is pretty lucky she doesn't have to do it now. On the other hand, I think a potential roommate may be lucky they don't have to share a room with her ;D **edit** she just called, I guess she misses us already

she just called, I guess she is missing us already Thought I would check my work email and calendar before going to bed; two emails from my daughter. One of them said "Mom, you were right..." ;D She was glad she chose to stay in the same building she was in last year. She thought about moving and I talked her out of it. The other email said she saw this picture and thought of me. I am assuming she saw this on the internet .... ;D ;D she didn't say why, but I asked in my reply...can't wait to hear this...lol

Well, she made it almost a week without returning home ;D That's better than last year; she was at school 4 days before returning, this year she will make it 6! Yep, she is coming home tomorrow. I guess she needs more stuff or maybe she just missed her mom . This time she will take the train as far as Elgin, which is about half way home but, on her return I have a feeling it will be another trip for me downtown .

I was right, had to take her back downtown today. Not a whole lot of stuff but too much to take on the train. Traffic wasn't too bad but sorry, couldn't tell you the mpg's and stuff 'cuz I didn't check it this time . Funny thing happened on my way back home though, no I did not get pulled over . As I was heading down I90, approaching Randall road, who do you think I see coming down the ramp? My son ;D we could not have planned it that way. I passed him as I was trying to call him on the cell phone. He had no idea I was there, he asked where I was and I said right in front of you, while waving my hand in the rear view mirror ;D. We chatted all the way back to Rockford, I showed him my short cut to town to save a toll, and then we stopped at DQ for some dinner.

Picked my daughter up yesterday afternoon, she came home to vote and go to a Halloween party. She got home about 2:30am . We had to leave at 6am to catch the train in Elgin so she could make it to her 9:30am class. I was up by 5:10 and she by 5:15. Not exactly sure what happened between then and 5:55 but that's when I knocked on her bedroom door to find her still in bed . She got up, threw her stuff together, and we were out the door by 6:02....not bad . Got about a mile from home when she said we had to go back, she left her key . I went back, told her she was really pushing my driving abilities and we were back on the road. We were about 15 minutes outside Elgin and I knew it was going to be slim to none to catch that train. I sped up slightly, which I was a tad uncomfortable with since it was still dark and you can't spot a cop car then . Sure enough, I see flashing lights coming up behind me CRAP I pull to the right lane and slow down.......he went right on by....whew . Well, as you have probably figured out already, she missed the train. Now I have to take her Downtown . We both needed a restroom and I needed to put some gas in the car, so we made a stop. She went into the restroom while I pumped gas, went in to get some coffee and pay. They only have one, unisex, restroom and I thought she was never coming out . She finally did and she was white as a ghost . She had complained about not feeling well earlier but had to get to class. btw, that was the nastiest restroom I think I have ever been in! So, we proceed back to the high way, the whole time she is moaning and groaning. I asked if I take her Downtown is she going to go to class or sleep, because I really don't want to drive down there is she is not going to class. She said let's go back home. Well, here we are, home, and I get to make yet one more trip to Elgin today. That will be 3 trips in less than 24 hours! btw, I was following a 2nd gen back just about the whole way AND, I think I will have an interesting picture from the trip yesterday. My daughter took the shot with her point-and-shoot, that she left at the party last night.....hope she gets that back

The bus station is 5 minutes from my house and goes to central station in Chicago....same place her train would take her
