I have owned both an '05 Bonneville GXP and an '01 Aurora.
Power-wise, the GXP takes the Aurora in every way except gas mileage. The GXP has more power and hit's it much lower in the power band. It also doesn't have the Aurora's dead spot (when cruising above 66 mph and below 75 mph) (Different tuning in the ecm??). Like the Aurora, it was a bit slower off the line than I like (I have a Big block Olds in my Cutlass) but once you're rolling, (20+), there were very few cars I couldn't keep up with (or pass), regardless of how fast they were were moving.
The GXP was still pulling hard at 135+ the time I really pushed it.
When I had to put the new engine in my Aurora in January, I had a chance to get a GXP motor, but suposedly, there were a number of changes after '03 that wouldn't allow the swap. In the time I had, all I could find was another Aurora motor, so that's what I went with.
If I could have found a good (low mileage) '00-'02 LD8 (275 hp) engine, I would have scarificed the gas mileage for the difference in horespowerpower and (espcially)TORQUE hands-down.
