Then you are doing something wrong.
Make sure you are not using img tags. It is just a straight URL.

^^ That link you posted is not the link of the actual image. It is a PAGE of the Image Shack website that contains the image. That's why it's not working. Use the built-in Image Shack utility (in this thread for instance) to upload the image, and cut/paste the URL that the pop up window provides.
I'd also recommend downsizing and cropping the image to "square" dimensions (100x100 for example) before using for an avatar.

built in image shack utility? now i'm really lost! here, copy and past the link below then remove the spaces between image and shack and put it in the avatar spot... img504.image shack.us/img504/5342/lanceqh2.jpg you may need to adjust the size so the pix is not distorted - I would guess avatar width 100 avatar height 75 - (can't tell you exactly now but I have a program at home that could tell me what size you need to enter.) Good Luck!

I updated your avatar for you. However, you have a huge picture that is scaled down. So it will a) load a huge picture for everyone, and b) have the browser scale it down, resulting in a fairly pixelated image.
You would be better off resizing it to no greater than 100px in either dimension, then uploading it and linking it.

Let me make a few quick points. (1) I could have done it for you (like some others did), but my goal was for you to figure it out yourself. (2) The link I posted shows how to upload a photo into Image Shack (as you know)... then you just cut and paste THAT provided Image Shack link wherever you want it. (3) Lastly, I see you have the photo uploaded now but it's in your signature and not the avatar. Did you do that on purpose?

not on purpose as you see i got it ::)dude the internet page was freezing up on me when i was trying to do this over & over & over again; a random blooper,or my isp, a server glitch, the twilight zone i dunno. but it took me a while to get through it w/ pages timing out on me etc. it was only acting goofy on that i cropped and resized b4 i posted but it was lagging beats me
