yeah, it sucks. I think with the upgrade only threads that have been read since then are indexed? Seems old stuff never shows up...

It's sort of unpredictable. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Use the google one on the bottom. It works a little better. Just besure to select the "aurorah.proboards47.com" option.

Yes the search is a bit limiting, but I will offer a few tips. I've had mixed results with the Google options, so these pointers go for the forum Search page:
- the maximum time frame it will search is 999 days. I don't know why that is, but it's what I've discovered and I don't think it can be changed. That's why you're getting 0 results with the number mentioned above. At 999, it may take a minute or two to display the results if you are searching across all the forum sections.
- Put "Maximum Results" at 30-50 depending on the topic you're searching, and change "View results" so it will display threads (collapsed) which will make the results much easier to organize and read.
With those parameters, I usually have pretty good luck searching for something I know is out there.

Just a suggestion to the administrators of ACNA. There are many forum software’s out there. But I have found that one of the best is www.vbulletin.com/index.php Along with www.vbadvanced.com/ It makes a very impressive forum. With awesome features and, “With no disrespect” a very advanced search engine! Look into it! Who knows, maybe one day the face of the ACNA may look very different. Like I said, just a suggestion…

vbulletin is extremely expensive for a forum system and in most respects it is overkill for us. Proboards isn't a forum system so much as a host with custom software. We have no control over any of the back end on this board.

Vbulletin, yes can be expensive. As for overkill I think not. In order for anything to move forward it must take expense. I posted this as an option only, knowing well that it would have financial output. Vbulletin Would offer full control over the forum with expansion options. Well! Here I am, sounding quite like the salesman! Which I am not. I’m just a steel worker, with an opinion.

I have setup and run a number of boards. While vbulletin is an nice product I don't see any reason to spend money on a forum system for a site that has no income. I would use PHPBB or e107 first.

IIRC, I thought ACNA already tried to upgrade from Proboards, turned out horrible, and we ended up back on Proboards?

What are the costs of V-bulletins. We use it 2 other forums I am on and works extremely well.
Other than a few glitches, this site works pretty well.

Yes, this site dose works well. Other then the search engine which is the theme of this post could use an upgrade with more flexibility and an advanced search option would be nice. For free software, this site is awesome.

IIRC, I thought ACNA already tried to upgrade from Proboards, turned out horrible, and we ended up back on Proboards? Precisely. It's been discussed (and even voted on by members) before, and the consensus has been to stay here for free. There are limitations, but it's pretty darn good for no cost. Plus we'd lose our entire history of threads if we moved to an independent server/software. We've been down that road before.

Well, if we'll lose our entire history of threads! Then you are right. Its best to stay were we are.

FYI, below is a link to votes taken (and the related discussion) a few years ago, after ACNA v2 crashed and we all migrated back here. The original Proboards site was ACNA v1, we moved after a year or so and started our own phpBB forum as ACNA v2, then our host shut us down unexpectedly after a few months and all our data on v2 was lost. Luckily the older stuff was still here at ACNA v1, so most of us made it back for ACNA v3 (where we are now). Proboards has made improvements as time has gone on, although there are still some annoying features (or lack of) that pop up and over which we Admins have no control. Anyway, the link: aurorah.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=suggest&action=display&thread=11852

it would be ok if it would recognize abbreviations which we use so often with the Aurora ie: ECM, PCM, ABS, IAT, O2, WOT, etc. but it omits anything under 3 letters!

^^ Right. Again that's a "feature" of the Proboards search over which we have no control. I'm assuming that safeguard is put in there to protect against searches of words like "an" or "it" that would take forever and majorly bog down the servers for ALL the Proboards forums.
