Alright so the end of the summer is just around the corner, so we decided to do our last trip this weekend.
We are going camping, I must be out of my mind, yup with the weather we had recently.
Well we are going camping to Illini State Park, so I will take some pictures for when I get back.
I got my trusty TomTom, (finally decided to go with one of those handy tools) so we should be OK.
Once again, Kay lookout after Oldnuts, I do not want to get back and hear the COPS were called.
See you all.

Just got back from being in the Great Outdoors. We had a blast, but I tell you sleeping out on a tent with temperatures in the low 60's, that's no fun.
Other than that we had a good time. I also found out that Illini State Park is one of 10 parks being close (possibly this year), which sucks.
We also went to Starved Rock, we had fun there too. Never had been there on those hiking trails. There no joke.
I also did a little fishing, caught a small Carp and a Cat Fish too.
I will get some pics up real soon.

Welcome back, looking forward to the pix! btw, you-know-who was well behaved while you were gone Thank you Rod Blog for closing so many parks! We have at least 2 in our area that are closing too. I am hoping to get to Lowden State Park before it's closing, I believe November 1st. It's a really pretty drive down Rt2 to Oregon and it is the home of the Black Hawk Statue. This from wikipedia..."The statue stands 125 feet above the Rock River, though its height only accounts for 48 feet of that. Black Hawk weighs in at 536,770 pounds and is said to be the second largest concrete monolithic statue in the world.[3] It wears a long blanket and stares across the river with folded arms." This statue has been here almost 100 years...

Whew! you had me worried for a moment. Yes, there is camping at Lowden State Park but again it will be closed after this season. I have been there many times as a kid but we just made a day of it with a picnic since we only live a short distance from there. Besides camping there is of course picnic areas, hiking trails, and access to the Rock River for canoeing. I do plan on visiting this fall and think the hubby will go along too, which is amazing since he never wants to go anywhere . I will get some pix and post them here. It really is quite a majestic sight, especially while going down the river and of course that will not change when they close the park. Should look great with fall colors...

Hey Javi, I want to see everything you have from Starved Rock. We are headed there for a weekend of camping in 2 weeks, just the wife and I. Should be able to head out and hit some serious trails without the kiddos trailing along.

We'll it turned out decent after all, with low temps and all, then it got better.
I learned that you have to make something out of it, ever since the last trip to Florida.

The waterfall ain't so little right now, following all the rain that came our way the last 2 weeks. The Visitor's Center and lower parking lots were completely flooded, but we still got out on the trails and had a good time. I'll get my pics up soon.

No I didn't, and what's weird is that I was just thinking yesterday that I wanted to get them up here. I'll grab them off my home computer tonight. Also I'm gonna move this over to the Roadtrips forum - I know you didn't drive an Aurora to Starved Rock but that's okay. We drove ours.

Here's our adventure photos! The whole lower area of the park (including the visitor's center) was flooded and closed off, but there were still plenty of good trails and sights to see. Including that same waterfall at the St. Louis Canyon, which was BETTER because of all the recent rain at the time... Checkin out the trails... hey one of those names looks familiar! The waterfall... that's my wife is at the bottom of the 2nd photo, so you get an idea of how huge it really is... The best named canyon, and a shot from the actual Starved Rock lookout. That was quite a climb!

I'd recommend Starved Rock to anyone looking for some good scenery and trails that aren't TOO rugged. They do have some rough ones it appears, but we stuck with the well-worn routes. I like how "smooth" the waterfall came out looking in those pics. My digital camera took a slightly longer-than-normal exposure which captured that, but it wasn't long enough to make the entire photo blurry. Turned out cool.
