you know what surprises me more is the fact of how actually little damage was done to the aurora.
hows the van look? and at least you admit that you were in the wrong i know people that (clearly by the way they will describe it tells you their in the wrong) will deny it tooth and nail that they are in the wrong and will fight it to death too.....even tho their wrong lol.

you know what surprises me more is the fact of how actually little damage was done to the aurora. Read what en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_Aurora says about the Aurora's structural strength........................................ "The Aurora was highly regarded at the time for its refined engine, excellent build quality, well-balanced ride, and structural integrity. In fact, during normal crush-to-failure tests done by automakers to evaluate body rigidity, the Aurora's unibody construction actually broke GM's testing machine.[citation needed] A frame-crusher otherwise used to test stronger truck frames had to be used instead, with the car exceeding federal standards for passenger cars by two times."

Good things happen to bad people so clearly the opposite is also true. Just sucks when crap happens and we wonder how the heck we didn't see it coming. Glad no one was hurt. Tickets in these situations tick me off too because its "adding insult to injury" when you know it was really an unintentional thing and that you were otherwise paying attention and obeying the speed limit or whatever and already feel bad enough for making a mistake. If there's a bright side to this maybe it's that no one will want to mess with you on the road since your car already has body damage and they'll figure you've got nothing to lose! ;D

I remember driving around in an 83 Tbird in gray primer, getting ready for paint, with no front grille or headlight bezels. NOBODY got even close! Better than driving around in an old police cruiser.

Thanks everyone, for your support! I really can't complain, I got my moneys worth out of this Aurora. The minivan didn't look too bad. The headlight was gone and he tore the front bumper the rest of the way off. Then he just threw the bumper on the side of the road and left it. They drove away in it. I will try to get some daytime pics, I am really busy this week.

Sorry about the car Randy. But good to see that you're keeping your chin up. No one got hurt and things can be fixed. That's what I kept telling myself when the whole front of mine was crashed almost 2 years ago. It sucks but you'll get sorted out.

Sorry to hear about that Randy at least your ok, hopefully you can get your Aurora back in full health and I know you will. Dont feel too bad I backed into my Bravada with my 95 Aurora. The Bravada was parked behind the Aurora garage door, I was running late for work lucky me Im the principal, so I put the car in reverse pushed the garage door opener and floored it and crunch we went she got a little too excited because she gets to show herself off that day and gets to go to town. The Bravada front bumper got messed up and the Aurora rear bumper a little crack and dented with the Aurora air bag deployed they worked all along now I know they work. For it was my 1st time ever hitting anything in the 14 years I have owned her and the air bags are expensive to be put back in. The Brav goes in the shop tommorow to get the bumper fixed and the Aurora gets out of the shop on Saturday hopefully. I know this is diff than your accident but maybe youll get a kick out of mine.

Sorry about the car Randy. I'm glad that no one was hurt. An accident is exactly that, an accident. It wasn't done on purpose. It sucks that you have to pay for the repairs yourself though, but that's insurance for you.

Dark Toreador Red Metallic (Dark Red) 51 / WA257C Sorry to hear that aj, 2 Oldsmobiles at once. Did both of your airbags go off? It's been quite a few years since I have wrecked a vehicle also. I have found a body shop that is a friend of a friends. If I could just get the rear pulled back over I could do most of the work myself. If that works out, maybe I could fix my latest parts car also. It needs the front pulled over. I am going to check on full coverage insurance, webenergy, I think it might be worth it.

This is with my trunk closed. Notice how the door has a bigger gap than normal. Passenger side bumper bracket. Drivers side.

Nice job Randy. I am not sure about your winching method, but it looks like it got the job done.

I've seen better winching, a fellow PBC member fixed a front end by tying to a hydropole and slowly backing up under the cars own power. Worked perfectly! But, we always knew Randy would be all over fixing his car

I was going to try that. But, I would have had to slide sideways past the tree backwards going about 50mph and then get the chain hooked in all at the same time. I would need some help for that. HaHa. It's been fixed since October, the new Wrecks and Repairs area just inspired me to do the write up.

pic 11 from the top looks like the car is falling into a sinkhole in your driveway! what does that say in blue paint on the edge of the road? never noticed that there before. (2 meters, 1 empty or something)

The only thing to remember is that you should put a towel or something over the strap/cable that is doing the winching. If the cable snapped/the strap broke it would have to diffuse the excess energy into something... It's better that that something is the towel and not you! That's the number one thing they say when you're going offroading; always stay clear and be sure to have something to diffuse the energy when you're winching.

I will remember that next time I winch something. I was hiding behind the doors, and being really careful.
