I just talked to my buddy Danny(WhiteDiamondDan). He is the owner of the other 4.0 that I went to go pick up ( made a compilation vid) . Anyway, he was in a fender bender yesterday. He was going through an intersection when a lady successfully made a left turn into his front end. He says the radiator is toast, the front bumper, the front fenders and the hood. He said the headlights made it! However the airbags did not deploy. I can only estimate this will cost her insurance company $4500 to fix. He says he is alright, shook up and as expected very angry about his current predicament. Unknown when the car will be repaired. We are usually 3 months behind on auto-body repairs during the winter in Alberta. We hope insurance doesn't write it off! He just spent a fortune on repairs as well!

That's bad news. A lot of Auroras have been crashed lately. I've been half-tempted to open another forum... "Aurora Wrecks and Repairs" or something to that effect. Not a topic anyone loves (the wrecking part anyway), but it does get discussed quite often.

That sounds like a good idea. It would be a good place to post before and after pics and methods of fixing.

I agree, that sounds like a good idea. It would be nice to have a place to talk about repairs you're having done, their progress, etc.
I hope that 4.0 doesnt get written off, that would be a shame!

If it the insurance company does write it off do you have a chance to buy it back or is it just gone forever ? The parts would make it a good return on the dollar or just buy the parts it needs to get it back on the road.

So bad news is in store for this poor aurora. As you can guess the insurance company wants to junk the car. We don't have any information regarding the life after death. I obviously have first dibs on some things, if it comes down to it. I have suggested buying it back with the money and restoring it with a salvage title. The ball is in the insurance companies court right now. First guess is around $8000 for a "settlement". I will keep the vultures thread updated when we have more info

Sorry to hear about the bad news. Would your friend be ok driving it after being fixed with a salvage title? I know I would be ok, but not everyone would be.

Damages according to the insurance company: $7200 Amount offered: $6800
For $400 they won't fix it??!? Something doesn't quite sound right. I would give the insurance the difference to fix it proper!

So a minor update to this tale.
The insurance company will not take the extra $400 needed to repair the vehicle. If he want's to fix the vehicle they plan to settle for 15% less than if he writes it off.
Sounds like a bunch of scammers to me.
I am waiting for him to make the call

what does he owe left on the car? I think well over half. He paid around $12K. They were selling for that price and more around here at the time he needed a car. They have finally dropped to $7500 to $9500 price range. A crappy situation for the guy. I don't want this car to get junked so easily. My sister wrecked her civic before christmas and got paid very nicely for her Honda. She almost made money on the deal, except she took the money and bought a new one I always had mine side swiped by some idiot in a crappy old toyota by someone not even looking I had to completly change lanes or esle the aurora would of been hit hard on the side badly I had a similar situation happen to me, except the guy made a left turn right in front of me, I was doing about 60km/h. I swerved to the left into oncoming (Incredibly lucky there was no traffic coming) and swerved around the jerk flawlessly. It looked like something out of the fast and furious. The car performed amazingly. The stability management system seemed to have jedi powers, or maybe it's my excellent driving skills ;D Either way the car can perform! Did you shake your fist at least?

So instead of being railroaded by the insurance company. Danny has managed to convince the insurance company that it was in their best interest to fix the car. I guess the only lesson to be learned here is that you should never accept the first offer from an insurance company.
We now wait for the repairs to get started/completed!
It's a good day!

I know.. I was looking forward to a replacement volume knob for my stereo, a second set of wheels, replacing the front passenger speaker grill, I would have even considered buying the whole thing just for spare parts. It would have kicked my old cutlass out of her "final" resting place, but so worth it.
It should be out of the shop at the end of the week. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the wreck. I will see if his insurance adjuster took some that he could get, but I doubt it.

Since I haven't been around town too much in the last few months, I haven't had a chance to catch up with Dan until now.
Apparently the car is STILL in the shop. They claim that GM had no more hoods available and that they are producing more and he is on the waiting list!?? 3 months later he still doesn't have his car! They won't even give him an ETA!

So $7800 worth of repairs. We noted the slightest bit of over-spray on one spot on the bumper near the bottom corner. No big deal though. Ended up using a hood from the junkyard and new front bumper. Reused mostly all the parts (headlights, fogs, grills) The A emblem for the hood was on backorder, and has finally arrived. Can't say Danny is anything less than ecstatic to have his car back. It's good to have another 'rora on the road
