I am new to your site and to my '01 4.0. I have enjoyed both so far. However, I lifted the rear carpet the other day to run some amp wires and found a puddle. The padding was also full of water. The carpet is dry and there was no water in the area under the seat, where the battery is. Any ideas? I also have a noise, which sounds like it coming from inside the dash. It's only there when the car is running and it doesn't matter if the air is on or off. Thanks for the help, Robby

hmmmmm, have you crawled under there to see if you have any rust or holes? I hear of it happening in the front passenger seat but not the rear seat. Maybe a passenger had wet feet?

My guess.......bad door seals.

I concur with Marc's explanation. I parked my car on an angle in a heavy rainstorm a few weeks ago (forward, and to the left on my sloping drivevay). The carpeting and mat behind the passenger seat was completely soaked.

Today I noticed a soaked carpet in the rear seat floorboard behind the passenger seat. Was wondering if Rocinante or anyone else figured out what the problem is before I take it to have THAT looked at. Jeez....

If your window regulator was replaced check to see if the water deflector was sealed good. I just found out mine was not. With the door open run a light spray from the hose on the door windows and see if water comes in from under the door panel. I also had a leak from the sunroof drain tube behind the front kick panel. This one gets more complicated to check so check the doors first.

I'm still assuming it's the door seals, despite the fact I use the AC Delco silicone on them every 3-4 months. Of course, it was a poor design to begin with (I've read previously that even when the 2nd gens were new, many owners still complained about the wind noise/air leaks once they got past 55 mph).

I think my Aurora reads this forum and whenever someone reports an interesting problem my car needs to demonstrate it for me I've parked in a garage both at work and home for the past 2 years but left the car out for a few days last week and my passenger side rear floorboard was soaking wet. I wasn't parked at much of an angle - it was the same place as in the photo below. I haven't taken the rear passenger door apart but perhaps it was before I owned the car. Any more info about the sunroof drain tube? What path does that take? Dave

Pull the splash guard out behind the RH front tire. The drain tube connects to a connector there and that was one of my leaks. Simply reconnect the hose and connector and put some zip ties to hold it.

the problem my car had was the water would run off the window into the door vavity and onto the plastic liner on the inside of the door panel. the water would then run along that liner to where it was pookied to the inside door and out into the car . the plastic deflecter needs to have its lower edge tucked inside the door panel so the water run into the door cavity and out the drain holes on the bottom edge of the door which lead to the outside.
take your door panel off. get inside and close the door and have some spray a hose at the door window and watch the water trail.

While I had the car in to check on the squirrely ride, I had them check out the wet drivers side rear seat floorboard. Since I had gone to a dealer shortly after purchasing the car in January to have them give me a print out of the service history, I knew the rear window regulator had been replaced. Sure enough, they fixed it by refitting & resealing the LR door water deflector (well I'll see after the next rain). It sounds like Rustymitt has the same problem. I've found most GM dealers will give you a service history print out if you ask. That's helped me on a couple of things, not to mention the great people on this board!
