I've gotten a couple questions recently on how to post pictures to our forum, so I created this write-up to help everyone out. Here's a step-by-step that should point you in the right direction.
First off, I would recommend using a website called photobucket to post your pictures. You can organize them into seperate albums, edit the photos right there on the site, and have easy access to them whenever you need to add one to a post. The built-in uploader is great for quick uploads but not when you need to access a picture multiple times and it's difficult to get full-size photos to show up sometimes. If you want to see how to upload photos using the built-in uploader, go here to see Aurora40's Imageshack writeup.
When you first go to photobucket.com you should see the link that says "join now" on the website's main toolbar (on the left). Click that. It will guide you through all the registering stuff and you'll eventually be good to go. Once you log in you should come the the main album screen.
To the left you will see a toolbar called "albums". This is where you go to organize your photos. I have 13 albums myself, all for different sectons of the forum. One for my Feburary 2009 MFA, one for the 2009 Calendar, one for the 2008 Springfield meet, one for my DRL writeup, a couple for just general pictures, etc. This is a great way to keep track of where your photos are; I would utilize it whenever you can. Create an album that relates to the photos you're uploading ("ACNA photos" works just fine you're only posting a few pictures. There's no sense in creating a whole album for just a few photos.)
IMPORTANT: Make sure that the place you upload your photos to is where you want them to stay. The URL that photobucket gives you is specific to where the photo is at that moment. Once you delete the photo or move it to another album the previous link you have to that photo will not work anymore. If you move a photo to another album or delete it you'll get one of these:
^^That neither looks pretty nor helps anyone out on the forum, it just turns into clutter. Moral of the story: once you post a link to a photo on ACNA (or any forum) don't move it or delete it! ;D
Once you get to the album you want, look towards the top of your screen in the middle. You'll see an upload box where you can choose the pictures that you want to upload onto photobucket. BEFORE you upload the pictures, note the dropdown menu at the bottom of the uploading tool. You can preset the size you would like the photo to be. The maximum size that ACNA allows is 800X600 for normal forum posting.
When you have the size that you want go ahead and select the photos to upload by selecting the "choose files" button. This will bring up an "explore" window that will allow you to choose the photos off of your computer. Use the [shift] key to select a range of photos (ex: photo 1 through photo 5). Use the [ctrl] key to select individual photos (ex: photo 1, photo 2, and photo 5).
Once you have your photos selected then click "open" on the explore window and photobucket will begin to upload your photos. When it is complete it will bring you to a screen where you can add tags and descriptions to your photos, I usually just ignore this and select "retrun to album" at the bottom left of the list of pictures.
Now that your photos are uploaded, you're ready to add them to a post. There are two ways to do this.
First: mouse-over the photo. You will see a list of four kinds of links that pop up. The one that you want to use for ACNA is at the very bottom, titled IMG Code. Just copy/paste this URL into your post and your photo should show up!
Second: Click on the picture itself. This will bring you to a screen with just this photo on it. You will see the same list of tags to the bottom left of the photo. Again you want to copy/paste the IMG Code URL into your post for ACNA.
A cool feature of photobucket is the built-in editing tool. To access this you can hit "edit" at the top left of any photo on the main album screen, or you can select any of the individual editing options from the screen of each specific photo. You'll have to play around with the editor to see what everything does, but once you get the hang of it you'll find that its very useful.
I hope this has helped! If you have any other questions feel free to PM me (or any other staff member) and I will do my best to help you out.
