THE SETTLEMENT is IN! $1658.80, and car is to be kept!
I had it settled yesterday, then they said it was no longer a total loss. I met the progressive guy at the repair shop, they put it on a lift, and he took pictures. Upon looking at it, he declared it a total loss and was quick to have it reapproved and printed the check right in his car. If I felt like being a jerk I would have jumped all over that, but I really dont want to deal with them anymore. If the lady calls me to follow up, I will give her a piece of my mind on the situation, but beyond that I hope to never deal with Progressive again.

Nice, CB! That's quite a bit better than your previous settlement AND you get to keep the car. Does this mean you'll be fixing it, or will you still try to sell it maybe for parts or something?

I am going to try to sell it for cheap to someone willing to fix it up. I would love to part it out to you guys (including the new fuel pump, plugs, wires, injectors, etc) but I have no room to keep a parts car. I will post it in the marketplace, but I dont want it to be a fellow ACNAer's problem.

chris - good job staying with it. Your experience is similar to mine - squeezing an extra grand out of the lowball insurance adjuster. You had a tough fight, but you succeeded.
You might want to consider an Intrigue if you haven't made your mind up on the Alero. The parts are generally cheap (I bought 4 struts with mounts for under $200 delivered) and the car is very similar to the Aurora, but a little easier to work on. The 3.8 is pretty bulletproof and the 3.5 should be a hoot to drive - the Intrigue is about 200 lbs lighter than the Aurora.... To make it even better, many Aurora parts fit Intrigues - front bearings, front springs, radio, wheels, tires....

Glad to hear that they FINALLY did the right thing. It's a shame that you have to jump thru all the hoops to get there. They should just be fair from the start, instead of trying to rip off the unknowing.

They should just be fair from the start, instead of trying to rip off the unknowing. In a perfect world everyone would be fair, but they wouldn't make any money if they were fair all the time. It comes with the territory.

I agree it comes with the territory, but they need to make their money from the person at fault, through premiums, not by shafting the innocent bystanders.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Ingrigue, ntrenn. I considered it, but think it would be better as my next new car. This one is down to a 4cylinder with a manual trans. I would love an alero like that, but they are very hard to find with the manual trans...

I worked on that manual back when it was in development - pretty bulletproof - but REALLY rare in production - happy hunting...

Way to go man, that outcome is GREAT and only happened because of your determination to not get ripped off. My Aurora is for sale... And believe it or not, we will be in Michigan in the next couple weeks! ;D

Just read the post. Thanks. I'll take my time to deal with Geico... ACV $2100, no way... One thing I don't quite understand is why the insurance company wants a claim to be settled asap? And why they don't want to go through "legal process"? I think they have their full-time lawyer to that job?

The longer a claim sits on the sdjusters desk the more demerits they get which means no bonus at the end of the year and it goes in their annual review. During the recent storms my moms Jeep was damaged and she was fighting with the insurance company over the total value. Even though she didn't agree upon a settlement the adjuster sent her a check for half of the vehicled totaled value...reason being when he sent the check the claim was considered settled even though she had not agreed to nothing. Clever little witches they are.
