I do this annually, just to get away from the insane asylum, and usually cross at Niagara Falls, NY, to take 90 to 95, and then I'm there. However, I was warned about overzealous ticketing by the troopers in NY. Had my brother-in-law with me (he lives in Norwood), and he suggested that we go by way of the ferry crossing in Lake Champlain, which would be quite out of the way, but still a scenic drive.
Drove to Kingston ON and stayed overnight at a friends cottage just to split up the drive. Originally was going to cross at Cornwall, ON, but just caught a roadside sign warning of problems at the border there (First Nation protests), so we crossed at 1000 Islands. From there, took Rt 37 to Ogdensburg, then down to Canton to hit Rt 11. Worked our way down to Port Kent, (just missed the ferry, so had to drink sun tea for an hour). Lake Champlain is pretty big - ferry crossing took an hour. BTW, Vermont is beautiful. First time there. From there it was a straight forward run towards Beantown.
BTW, even though some might think booze is cheap in NH, think again. It was actually cheaper in MA.
I didn't mind the extra driving because, call me crazy, I enjoy piloting the Beast. True to form, no pics were taken on the road. Averaged a pretty good 8.0L/100Km. Same on way back.
