Well, my 98 died on me. Basically I worked a 16hr graveshift, drove an hour home, worked on getting the wifes car running, then it was time to head back to work. Worked another long shift. When I got out to the car I sat down, started it up, then fell asleep. woke up 5hrs later to my wife calling wanting to know where I was. The car was dinging, said hot, shut off car. The temp was pegged past the red. I have no idea how long it was running like that. I let it cool then I was able to get it started with clouds of white smoke. It chugged like a tractor with no power, then died in an intersection a block from work. Got it started again and more smoke, it drove with some power this time, but the temp went up quick and the resevoir was empty. I limped it to a friends house where we kept adding water. It kept sucking it down by the gallons. I didnt see any leaks though. Then it wouldnt turn over. Pulled a spark plug and the cylinders were swimming. My father thinks the heads are likely cracked and I agree. The car has dings and dents galore, the battery is in need of replacement, it never had a door key, and the thing has used oil since I bought it. So its done for. I'm getting a 98 Intrigue for 300 with a 3800. At least I can work on that motor more easily- no room with that darn 4.0l. Its a no pearl, but it will get me to work. It just needs some new wheel studs, fix the blower, swap out tires/wheel with the aurora, eventually put on a windshield and a new taillight. Its missing a part of the bumper cover but hey, what can I expect for 300?
I put up parts in the for sale section if ya'll are interested.

Sorry for your misfortune. When you swap the Aurora wheels on the Intrigue, watch out for brake caliper interference on the fronts. The outer strap interferes with the Aurora wheels, but you can grind enough clearance without worry.

Thats not a bad deal. Im happy you stuck with olds! Better to get a 3800 motor over the 3.5 LX5. Its not a fun but its a more tried and true motor!
Also sorry to hear about your misfortune. Although, something was seriously wrong if it got that hot no matter what. The fans should have come on at least and kept it somewhat cool. Good luck with the Intrigue, and when its all set post a pic of it in the "show off these NON auroras" thread.

3800 engines can be made to be very fun. Check out Intense Racing, ZZPerformace, and The W-Body Store. Plenty of handling mods, trans stuff and go-fast parts.

I meant AS fun not A fun... lol sorry. Its not AS fun as the 3.5. But its tried and true, very common, reliable, and yes, can be made fun (superchargers and the works are all available)

ntrenn: I put the wheels on before I read your message. They seemed to fit fine and has been driving around a few days like that. Did I just get lucky? I assume if they were rubbing I'd be able to hear it right? The bigger size fills the wheel wells out nicely.
starfire: I know all about 3800 performance. I checked out those places for my 04 Bonneville that my wife drives back when I had money to toy with such things. But for now I just need dependable wheels to get me to work.
