I have a 1995 that has been in the shop for three weeks. Two problems they have not been able to fix. 1. When the car is cold the A\C works just fine. After 10mins or so it cuts out and will not come back on. Let it sit overnight and the same thing happens. 2. When the car is cold the power steering works just fine. After driving a few miles, when sitting still you can barely turn the steering wheel. As soon as you start moving it steers just fine.
These problems can not be connected but they happened at the same time. Nothing has been replaced on the A\C. The power steering pump was replaced last year.
Any help out there Thanks Norm

1. Is it just that the A/C compressor stops working or is it the entire hvac system?
2. Have you checked your power steering fluid?

I am sorry if this reply sound stupid, but itss better to check easy things first. Check the refrigerant level in your a/c, it should have 2 lbs of freon. The mechanic can check that or I believe that you can buy a kit at pep boys of wal mart for about 20 or 30 bucks.

Wow, thaanks for the fast replies. The power steering was flushed and bleed last week thinking there might be some air in the system. No luck. I understand the pressure valves are in the steering rack. A $960 repair to replace. The A\C has the correct freon level. When it cuts out the compressor cuts out, the clutch releases. Do you know of any relays or pressure switches?

Wish I had a service manual for the car. But unfortunately I don't.
Look for JimW around......he has the books. Also look for someone by the name of sidney on here.

The A\C has the correct freon level. When it cuts out the compressor cuts out, the clutch releases. Do you know of any relays or pressure switches? Norm I had that exact same problem with my A/C - it would work when I first started the car and cut out after 10 minutes or so - it turned out to be a pressure regulator that turns the compressor off if the freon reaches too high a pressure. They cleaned the regulator relay and it worked fine. I'm not sure where exactly this relay is - I think it's attached to the compressor itself. Howard

They tried replacing my pressure regulator today Howard and it didn't help. Thanks for the tip though, it even indicated as it might be the problem.
