So here’s a problem I’ll throw out to you all to mull over. Yesterday as I was sitting in my car letting it idle I heard a strange noise which initially sounded like my air ride kicking on but a tad louder, and coming from the front of the car… I had no idea what it could have even been related to until I turned off the air to get a better listen, and the noise stopped. So if I were to hazard a guess I’d say it had to do with air/climate control area…

One guess....this could be the A/C compressor starting to go bad. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Yep...I would venture a guess at that compressor as well. There is a link on AF to some less expensive compressors. Heh..is it just me or are we having a lot of AC issues? *knocks on wood* Not that I use AC a lot

Not that I use AC a lot I almost never use it. I hate the idea of it dumping heat into my precious engine, but I also hate the idea of having the windows up and not hearing that beautiful growl! I've heard that you should turn your A/C on for at least 10 mintues continuosly each month. This makes sense to me. The refridgerant also has oil in it, so letting it run every once in a while will circulate the oil and help keep everything nice and lubricated. I try to remember to do that (if only it sounded as good as pressing the pedal does, cause I never forget to do that!)

The A/C compressor in the car that I had previous to my 2001 4.0, a 1972 442 with the W-25 455, ran fine all the time because in cooler weather I always ran the A/C for about a minute or 2 (set for some heat). And I had that 442 for 29 years! _________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

well thanks all, that ended up being the issue... so i've been going with out using the a/c and of course since the day it started acting up (the A/C still works i've just avoided using it) was the day our temps shot up from a steady 75-78 deg. to about 85-88 deg....
