Well, boss lady got herself a new (09) Lucerne Super and I had the pleasure of driving it today. For those of you who don't know, I am the manager of a bakery so delivery is a big part of my work. Well the explorer has been giving me some trouble with leaking clutch fluid. (Slave cylinder I'm sure) And it has been the delivery truck of choice due to its flat back are. Plenty of room for a 5 tier wedding cake.
Well I had a very long drive today and I wasn't trusting enough to put the exploder through its paces of a 2 hour round trip drive. So the boss reluctantly handed over her keys to her Lucerne. First thing I noticed was the trunk space, kinda sucked to be honest. I had 5 boxes of cake, there was enough room to lay each one down flat but not much after that. Our cake boxes are ten inch boxes. The styling I find kinda reserved to be honest, but it is for the older generation.
All of my hesitations about the car dissipated after climbing in. The Lucerne reminds me ALOT of the 2G, the shifter looks to be about the same, the seats seem to have about the same support and texture. All in all an ok interior. I was not impressed with the flat dash, reminds me too much of crown vics/town cars/ park avenues. The sound system was amazing, I think that is probably GM's strongest point, when you order premium sound you get premium sound. With massive helpings of bass. It was great! I didn't have the opportunity to get on it until the trip home. And to put it mildly, I was not impressed with the engine at all. almost 300 horsepower and my friends grandmothers DTS feels quicker than this, hers is also an 03. Passing power was adequate and it's road manners were similar to what I assume a 2G to be. (I have only driven a 2G for a combined total of maybe an hour.) No fancy interior buttons, No DIC that I could find.
All in all, I was not impressed. The ride was firm yet plush, commanding when needed but it pushed in the off ramps. The A/C was ice cold though, and I mean realllllyyyy cold.
For what these are selling for today, I wouldn't choose one over an STS or 2G. Just not enough to really make it look better than anything else you could get for 3/4 of the price.
