Hit a wet/icy spot going about 15-20mph and the left front tire hit a curb this weekend. My tires were pretty bad...in fact, I had an appointment today for new Uniroyal Tiger Paw Tourings, so I'm pretty sure that's why I lost traction. I was hoping I just knocked the alignment out, but the tire shop says that I bent the subframe, and therefore they cannot align it. They didn't really seem to know much, but felt like it could be straightened. I'm not sure I believe them 100%, as they admitted to not knowing much when it comes to suspension damage. I would be surprised if the tie rod, strut, knuckle, etc are OK but the impact was enough to damage the subframe. However, they claim they see nothing else affected.
I'm taking it to a body shop tomorrow. The readings from the alignment machine are as follows:
left front: camber: 0.9 caster: 3.9 toe 2.0
right front: camber: -0.4 caster: 5.5 toe: 1.94
All three measurements on the left front tire are out of spec, however the camber and caster on the right front is within spec. Any thoughts on what kind of damage I can expect other than the subframe, and potential costs? Submitting to insurance isn't an option, so leave that out.

I dont see how you could bend the subframe... I did this exact thing about a year ago going about 25-30mph and knocked it out of alignment and that was it (and totaled the wheel and tire lol).... Id just make sure that its actually bent before you go have work done to it and spend money that doesnt need to be spent.

Got an estimate from the body shop today. They want $691 to bend the subframe back and do a 4 wheel alignment.
I'm pretty sure I can get a subframe online for about $350 and have a shop install it, what would the labor be like on a job like that? Probably pretty high...
I still just don't buy the idea that the tie rod, control arm, hub, boot, strut/tower, and everything is OK, but the subframe is bent. Would ONLY a bent subframe throw off the camber, toe, and caster, or is it more likely that there is more extensive damage?

i dont see how nothing else is broke or bent either..... i would have those all looked at just to be safe. maybe you got lucky and the curb just hit the frame itself and bent it but it didnt mess anything else up. like i said nothing on my was broke just the rim and tire...

UPDATE: Everything is great now, but what a TERRIBLE experience it was getting it done. The idiot who was originally working on the car was recommended to me by one of my employees. He was cheap and supposedly fast and knowledgeable, so I went with him based on the personal recommendation.
Long story short, I paid the guy half the labor and part cost ($550!), 3 weeks went by and the guy kept spinning me and telling me that things were worse and going to cost more, and kept avoiding my phone calls. I demanded the car back on several occasions as it wasn't even where it was supposed to be getting the work done.
This loser ended up not repairing ANYTHING, despite leading me on, put 1,000 miles on it, and drove it around smoking in it for 3 weeks. I called the Sheriff's Dept and they found him and the car and charged him with 2 felonies. What an idiot. So the repair itself, new strut, two new control arms, and a new subframe out the door $980. But that doesn't include the $550 the thief robbed me of!
Either way, I got my baby back and shes running great!!

After reading this horror story. I am now glad I take my car to a dealer for repairs. Might cost more $$ but not having someone driving around in my car, smoking in it, and not fixing what needs to be fixed is worth the added costs!
Glad you got your car back and everything is fixed

I haven't found a shop that I can trust...... new strut, two new control arms, and a new subframe $1000 Is it necessary to replace all of them? It's so expensive to hit the curb......I'll be careful........

My nicotine addiction owns my me, I even smoked in brand new rentals risking like a $200 cleaning fee. But I always make sure the ashtray is clear, spray aftewards and always make sure the car is well ventilated. But once I detail the inside of the car i've already made a pact to stop the insanity!

I cant believe that losers like that exist still! I feel for ya man. I hit a pothole around 25ish! Wrecked my cv axels, wheel bearing and ripped a 3" gash in my sidewall too! 165 for new tire, 120 a piece for the axels, 130 for hub bearing, and 80 for the alignment plus the taxes.
Do you have any pics of the sub frame? I really cant see it being bent but stranger things have happened.
