Drove all my Olds this weekend and got them washed up and cleaned. Gonna take them in soon and have them get oil changes and make sure there in tip top shape. They havent seen the outside world since November was the last time they were even outside my driveway. Drove my F500 Bravada to work today, and man is it such a nice lil luxury truck, and didnt think people would stare at it 13 years later, hes still a looker!!!! I miss driving an Olds as a daily, but the Caddy's has to be the daily's drivers now!

I managed to blow out half my electrics trying to program a Remote Lock Control for my car today. What fun! Check out the separate thread on this subject.

Hey Aldrich, did you know the link in your Sig is broken?
What did I do to my Aurora today . . . well, I found a blown fuse. Gave a big sigh of relief because I thought I'd possibly fried half my car's electronics.
Also found out today that my car has the Autobahn package. Cool. Not that I'll ever do over 108 . . . although never can tell the way some of the folks in West Houston put the hammer down on the I-10 superslab.

After 8 months on jack-stands, to replace 2 broken wheel-studs on one wheel, and upgrade front brakes to DTS calipers... I drove the car a couple of miles to set the brakes, found fairly major leak between the overflow tank (I think) and the radiator. Extended repair time was because of broken bolts, un-helpful parts stores, parts suppliers who can't seem to correctly fulfill an order. (If the local GM dealer actually can get me the correct set of bolts on their 3rd try, I will have driven 250 miles for 11 new bolts. ---including 6 I got today from the hardware store, in one trip.) I have used the extra down-time to work on some significant paint-defects, but had to stop half-way through priming, because I can't expect appropriate temperature & humidity until September. (I have no idea why GM used red-brown primer for white cars. ) (It was SO nice be be able to drive my car, just a little. Lord, it needs a bath, bad.)

Was your wing for an Aurora, or adapted from something else?
I've been looking at wings too, but I have other things on the to-do list ahead of it.

A couple of days ago, my Autobahn decided she didn't want to start! I already went through this a few months ago! I got her a new AC Delco battery, starter, ignition switch, cleaned all contacts (+/- side, from battery to engine, and everywhere in between! )! So i knew that was all good! I popped the serpentine belt off, turned the key! She started right up! I shut her down! Checked idler pulley, tensioner pulley, alt., ALL spun freely! AC Compressor NOT so much! I went to Advanced Auto, here in Spokane, Wa. And picked up a serpentine belt that was 8.5" shorter! Attachment DeletedDone fixed THAT! !!! LOL! Now on to the next issue! LOL! I took her out on the town! Was "DRIVING" her like i do! Turned a corner and it just didn't feel right! So i started home! Performed the "wiggle" test! Woh, THAT didn't feel good at all! So I'm thinking Stab. end link ! Get her home, look under front (dr.side good, pass. side a little gap) ok, but still wouldn't explain what i felt on "wiggle" test! Moved to the rear to take look! Stab. end links look alright! I look up at rear suspension craddle and spot this, Attachment DeletedPass. side mount bushing, twisted and about 1/4" lower than dr.side! Off to Pull and Save! LOL!

Attachment Deleted Replaced Frnt. Stab. end links, Moog K700528! Took her for test drive!! Rides and handles like NEW!!!!!! DAMN, I LOVE these 1st Gen. Auroras!!!!

Started tearing the interior out of my parts car. Switched the hood from the parts car to my car. Switched out both driver's side doors because of working windows from my parts car. I now have a 2-tone white Aurora. Diamond White, and Bright White. Actually doesn't look that bad. Switched out the instrument cluster, that took 16 K off of the odometer. The mileage reading stays with the cluster, not with the car. Grabbed a tail light bulb out of the parts car. It sure is nice having the junkyard already in your driveway.

That is odometer fraud if not. Agreed parts cars are nice, but mine is now at the other end of the city.

That is odometer fraud if not. Agreed parts cars are nice, but mine is now at the other end of the city. Main problem with driver door window is the freakin' clips that I couldn't find anywhere. Also when it went all the way down, it would come back up out of line, and would jam. Rear driver door snapped a cable. Both motors are actually good. As far as the mileage goes, I have noted it, (difference of 16 K) but as we all know, vehicle rules and regulations vary greatly from state to state. This would be a problem when my registration comes due, but here in PA, I can simply claim 'True mileage unknown.' Certainly not a good thing for resale, but nearly every car I've ever owned goes to the junkyard when I'm done with it. So unless these things go nutzo with collectors, there is little chance I'll ever be looking to sell. But I do keep my eyes on Aurora's for sale, and just about every seller is looking for more than book value. A lot of them just don't know these things have PATHETIC resale value, but even dealers are looking for over the top money. This wasn't really the case a year ago, so I'm hoping.

After driving for a couple of months with a "low oil pressure" warning at low rpms, when the engine is warm. (Pressure was always fine, cold, always fine above 1000 rpms)... followed advice buried the Forum here, began putting 20w50 in, when my engine needed oil. Having added 2-3 quarts of the 20w50, the warnings seem to have stopped. It had been dropping 1/2 quart or so per month, that also seems to have slowed down. For the information of anyone curious about this: The 1st things I did, when this popped up, was replace the oil pressure sensor, and do an oil change (to make sure I had exactly 7 quarts). These did not help. It seems like it all started when I did my 1st oil change with 7 qts. of full synthetic. A new oil pump may well be in my future, but I am willing to run on 50% or so 20w50, 50% 10w30, in the meantime. I also got a 15 psi cap for the overflow tank. She needs a good wash & wax pretty bad, but I still have a couple of square feet of paint I'm repairing. (It doesn't seem right to call fixing a patch the size of the palm of my hand "touching up.")

Hey Fred, I just did the same thing 2 -3 days ago in the Jeep. This was her 270,000 mile oil change and for the past several oil changes it's been getting noisy in the top end after 1,500 - 2,000 miles. Usually that's an indication of dirty oil, but in my case couldn't be. I switched to STP 20-50 and so far the engine doesn't race when I go to shut it off. (it would always VROOOM up to 2,200 RPM then shut off) Now it doesn't do that. I notice that the oil pressure once it's warmed up and just idling is about what it was going down the highway before. Only miles will tell if it has cured my problem. Oh, I also added a bottle of Lucas oil treatment. Now my thread hijacking is complete lol, so what did I do to my Aurora? Last week - New thermostat and coolant flush @ 80 psi. No more death-cool, dex is one of the biggest problems with the heads. GM thought they could reinvent the wheel with red antifreeze. Don't buy into it people. The green is much greener. (It's not as corrosive) I also did some snake oil because I need a running car. Blue Devil Head sealer has an 85% success rate with Northstar engines - so long as there isn't coolant in the oil. If it's going out the exhaust like mine was - then Blue Devil is a blessing from God! This week - New Alternator with lifetime warranty $492.67 at Chad's Garage in Carthage. My first quote was from the Crossroads Cadillac dealership ($990.27) with only a 1-2 year warranty! Paint stripping. Let the diet begin!! I would have already had all the paint stripped off but my car was in the shop all week so I couldn't work on it. For those of you who don't know : I'm going down to metal on the hood and clearing it. It's gonna look so bad apples. I'm also going with color shifting paint on the fenders, but the trunk deck, roof, and skirts (twizzlers) are going to be white or silver. It's going to be multicolored and interesting. Why am I painting it this way? Simply all of the paint from the side trim down is perfect, but from the trim up it's trash.I will likely never match the white diamond good enough to be happy with it so I'm going over the top. I think white to silver/ silver to white, or gold to red/ red to gold will look the best. I don't have any power tools for this so I'm just taking my time, but then I ran into bondo. I can't for the life of me figure out why there's an 1/8" of bondo running all the way across the leading edge of the hood, and is even thicker under where the hood emblem sat. I see no body damage at all. This is strange and just slowed up my progress a lot. look at all that bondo, but more importantly look how awesome the bare aluminum looks peeking out there. I also found a forest growing behind the gas cap door. whoa nasty.

I got hold of some power tools so it's going a little faster now. I got the underside of the hood cleaned up today and ready to touch up. Walmart did a bang up job of messing it up of course. I took the top of the hood down with 80 grit. I'll 120 again, then 220, then 280, then 320, then wet sand with 500, then polishing compound, and it should be ready to clear coat.

I have a modded shifter console that still needs painted or wrapped. I glassed over the TC control and put in a different switch altogether among other things. I just never decided on what kind of wood grain or other type of vinyl I wanted. Then lost interest in mods for a while. It happens!

And I don't have any evidence, or even an anecdote, to support that the PF61E isn't reliable. But like I said, I just don't trust that plastic cage... Let me know if that 0W-30 helps out!

Hey Sall why the 0w-30? Just curious
I've been using the PF61E for the last couple years now, no problems to report. I had no idea they were plastic haha. Looked this up after reading your posts
ACDelco Launches Redesigned OE Oil Filter By Blog Post on November 4, 2009 1:01 AM | No Comments ACDelco has announced a redesigned Original Equipment (OE) oil filter that offers ACDelco's exclusive Duraguard® media in a smaller package.
The new OE filter applications PF46E, PF47E, PF52E and PF61E will be installed in applicable new GM models.
The new oil filter features:
• Increased efficiency and higher burst and collapse strength (Fig. 5, A) • A new Nylon core that provides better flow characteristics and improved collapse strength (Fig. 5, B) • A full cover baseplate that allows easy installation in blind applications (Fig. 5, C) • Duraguard media, ACDelco's trademarked synthetic cellulose-blended media that efficiently filters particles as small as 10 microns -- 1/3 the width of a human hair -- to ensure a clean supply of oil to engine components (Fig. 5, D) • A combination relief and anti-drainback valve that prevents dry starts and assures oil flow (where applicable) (Fig. 5, E)
In addition to the new OE design oil filter applications, the original filters (PF46, PF47, PF52 and PF61) continue to be available in a classic design.
Either way I've had good luck with them so I'll just get them when they're available. Filters never really made much difference to me, I'm always more worried about the actual oil haha
Been running this filter with Mobil-1 Full synthetic High Mileage 10w-30 since the day I bought the car. Most of the time it comes out still looking clean when I change it so no reason to change. Although I have been thinking of messing with viscosity.

Hey Sall why the 0w-30? Just curious I usually use 5w-30 in the winter OCI. Then I saw people touting the Mobil 1 0w-30 and was even recommended on BITOG. While looking up some info on ZDDP I came across this: and from Mobil 1 themselves: So, I thought I would give it a try. Of course the gas mileage is minute and not really a consideration in the purchase.
