Preparing the car for its new paint... will aim at painting it somewhere in early June.

as I'm preparing the car to be painted, I want to also fix a lot of things that have been broken. For one thing, the wiper washer barb connection near the wiper arm broke twice on me. Must be the ice and the winter, combined with the summer sun that made the plkastic become brittle. I am removing the whole plastic cover at the bottom of the windshield to have full access (and paint the surroundings while I'm at it). One thing: to remove the wiper arm you need a battery pole puller, not those U-shaped tools they sell specifically to remove wiper arms. I'll replace the plastic barb fitting with a metallic fitting, so that will be the last time it needs to be changed.

Document the process! haha I am not sure it's worth documenting, it did not start the way it should have started

Took the driver's seat out and opened up the little gear box on the left side for the recline motor. Turns out the threads were seized on the worm gear causing a plastic gear tooth to snap off. Luckily it functions "ok" without the missing tooth (and now that it is un-seized and greased of course.) I can now recline my seat for the first time in 3 years haha. Yes, I was putting off this job for awhile as it is a major pain in the you know where.

Removing the wiper arms is fun -- need a battery puller, putting some pressure and then, 45 seconds later, the wiper arm pops out. WEIRD. But OK, as the arms popped out, I was trying to light up my propane torch to (lightly) heat up the wiper arm shaft area. So: get a good puller, put pressure and then let it work for a few minutes. Once the wiper arms were out, removed the plastic/windshield cover and blew air to clean 15 years of dust. The plastic of the wiper cover is fading, painting it wiill be a plus. btw, wiper arms are different from L to R. Pay attention to that Attachments:

Whoah, the 2G has the same "golf ball" like dimpling under the hood as the classic. I never knew that.

Painted the wiper cover, wiper arms, fixed the windshield washer tubes (these get fragile with the sun) and got some copper paint in these hard to reach places. see pictures. just to clarify: my goal is to paint all hidden / hard to reach locations with a spray can, then finish the exterior car with a real nice coat of paint. Copper. Attachments:

Saturday I installed a backup camera and Sunday I did spark plugs and the dreaded rear (left) valve cover gasket. That was a "fun" job for sure.

It really wasn't so bad, mostly just removing a lot of crap that's in the way haha. I don't really lose that much oil between changes either but when she's really hot (like 95+ degree days) you start to smell the oil burning on the manifolds/crossover. I figured I'd take care of the gasket while I took care of the plugs since most of the stuff that has to come off for the gasket needs to come off for the plugs anyhow. And with the plug change, the slight miss she had seems to be gone.
The backup camera is nice. I knew the aftermarket Sony H/U I have had an input for it, it was a project that was always in the back of my mind and I finally got around to it.

Yeah, I get a whiff of oil smoke now and then, but my valve cover leak is on the corner right under the cabin filter/fresh air intake! But hey, that's what the RECIRC button is for, right? LOL!
And congrats om the misfire fix!
But as for back up cameras, I'm warming up to them. Our new (to us) Tahoe has one, just don't want to lose my "mirror skills", haha.

Our Old Escalade has the crappy back up camera which is useless to us really as it sits too low and its resolution not as good anymore although it does have the parking lines still and sensors. I love the backup cameras in the new Cadillacs over compared to the older models, I love the 360 degree all around birdseye view, and the automatic braking system with the vibrating seats when another car approaches behind you real fast. Alos my wife new CTS also has the rearview camera mirror as well which helps you backing up since I still use my mirrors as well when backing up and dont really look at the camera down below.

Mine smells too like the burnt oil as well especially on hot days, it gets bad. I need to get that done someday too but for now its on the back burner. You have the lines and markers for your camera? I had the one installed for my 01' headunit as well but it didnt have the lines or markings on it and you had to look down on it instead of looking up which isnt very helpful. I also have the older pioneer headunit that I had installed in 2011 so its somewhat old now!

Yep the camera came with markings. Had to play with the angle a bit on it to make them a little more accurate as they obviously aren't vehicle specific Yeah, I get a whiff of oil smoke now and then, but my valve cover leak is on the corner right under the cabin filter/fresh air intake! But hey, that's what the RECIRC button is for, right? LOL! And congrats om the misfire fix! But as for back up cameras, I'm warming up to them. Our new (to us) Tahoe has one, just don't want to lose my "mirror skills", haha. Yep it's definitely not a replacement for mirrors and looking back. I back up mostly the same as I did before I just reference the screen now and then if I'm backing to something that I wouldn't normally be able to see as well (ie bumper level objects or when parallel parking etc.)

Same here, my Aurora gets a little burnt oil smell now and then... That rear cylinder bank is cramped. I also own a S80 Volvo with a V8 -- 60 degrees makes this kind of maintenance easier, but the (Yamaha-built) engine is not nearly as smooth as the Aurora's

My car is 1,330 miles away so I asked my girlfriend to start it and let it run for 15 minutes and report to me tomorrow what the oil pressure, voltage system, and engine temp showed at 5, 10, and 15 minutes.

Put a new battery in her. This is the third one since buying it in 2001. The batteries seem to last about five years.
