Ok I'm new on the forum. I have a 1995 classic that is hard to start when its hot or warm. its actually the worst after sitting for 30 min or so. 202000 miles on odometer. Here is what i've done so far. Replaced fuel pump due to max pressure being only about 30 psi. replaced fuel pressure regulator replaced the intake manifold due to vacuum leak in the backfire valve. Plugs and wires. replaced coil packs. had the ignition control module checked. It's OK It seems to run fine once you get it started but when its warm it wants to backfire and hit just enough to disengage the starter. It also starts great when cold (sitting over night). Looking for ideas. Thanks in advance!

MAP and or oxygen sensor? EGR Valve? >clogged catalytic converter?<

Thanks for the sugestions they reminded me: The cats been punched out, I replaced the map sensor also but i have not done anything with the EGR valve, they usually will throw a code. But I will check it out.

well then about the only other thing i can think of is maybe the crank pos sensor or TPS? didn't see that on the list.

Hmmmmmm, EGR sounds like a culprit. I dunno about a 95 throwing a code for EGR, 95's are pretty stupid when it comes to diag. After that many miles it's possible to be carboned up and only shuts when it sits overnight. Plus once it fires a couple times, if it's wide open, it'll flood the intake with exhaust gasses.
Pull it and shove a rubber cork in the intake hole quick.
Aside from that guess... put it on a scanner and see what kind of data all the sensors are putting out.. otherwise it's kinda hard to say.
One more.. does the temp gauge work propely??

The one EGR valve that I had act up gave a really crappy idle to go with hard to start.
The newer ones can stick open with a backfire. They clean up fairly easily - good thing because they are not cheap parts to replace.
Hot start issues usually lead you to thinking about fuel delivery (vapor lock?) and sensor issues - IAC not setting properly, etc. Hot - the computer doesn't call for as much enrichment as cold during the start.

Might want to check your FPR again... I know it's already been changed, but that's the most common culprit of hard starts on a warm engine.

Ok I pulled the EGR valve off. It was not stuck but had some carbon buildup on it. Got it all cleaned up. Plugged the holes in the manifold and with the EGR valve pluggged into the harness I fireed it up and let it run about 20 minutes or so to get up to temp. The question is Shouldn't I be able to see the EGR valve open and close underr different throttle settings? Mine never moved. But it opens and closes on the bench if you apply voltage. Suggestions? !!!

It only opens @ cruising conditions... it's honestly not a very useful system IMHO.
Did it start any easier with the EGR out once it was hot?

I'm having the same issue, I live in Las Vegas and temps go way over 100 degrees here and after running the car a few hours I shut it off but a half hour later it wouldn't start. Waited another half hour and it started so I was wondering if I need to upgrade the fans on the radiator?

Waited another half hour and it started so I was wondering if I need to upgrade the fans on the radiator? As stated earlier in the thread, a lot of stuff can cause this issue. The most common I have seen in my years here is the Fuel pressure regulator. Not sure what you would use as far as upgrading the fans. Being that you are in Vegas I imagine you are always running the AC so the fans will be at high speed at all times. I'm not sure you could fit anything much bigger in there. How hot is the car getting?
