I just put on the road my 1998 Aurora-64,000 mile car. Put it on the road March 24th. Now I bought this car as a second car-cruise nights, car shows, etc. It was near mint condition-and I really like the idea that when I drove it-you never saw another one sitting next to you at a light. Friday drove the car to work and went for a short ride. Saturday morning-used it to meet some friends of mine for breakfast-they all flipped over the car. Before I went home I took the car up to singer Billy Joels motorcycle business in Oyster Bay,N.Y-took some great pics of the car outfront of the place. Drove home-parked car out front-short time later-car was hit. So I drove my car probally 80 or so miles and as the repair cost is over $3500.00 car will probally be totaled I am so so bumped out over this. Great riding car-loved the looks-now gonna be gone. Car was registered on Thursday-totaled on Saturday

Thats not a good story Thats harsh Did the perpetrator have the brass ones to stick around? Is it worth buying it back from insurance and proceeding with repairs?

They had no choice but to stick around as they needed a tow truck-as far as buying it back-I guess I could but after repairs were done it would have a salvage title which in NY can be hard to insure-as even though it was a 1998 I did have full insurance including collision on it. Thanks for posting the pics by the way. Maybe the insurance company won't total but my friend at the body shop said the insurance company total price is around $2400.00-even though it was a great low mileage car it still is a 12 year old car-even considering the mileage and condition. Maybe next one-collectors car insurance-who knows.

Yeah I agree. I'd say $350 for a bumper, a good half dozen hours to fix the door and a front fender, and a coat of fresh paint down the side. Looking again though it's hard to tell but is the drivers door caved in in the middle? Or is that just the curve of the body. Even still they shouldnt total it just for that.

Bummer. You might find some replacement parts on ebay. Def the wheels and saw a few doors on there a couple weeks ago. Try carpart.com

Wow....really bad story. Having lived through something similar myself, you should make car-part.com your friend. If you are prudent, you can possibly do the repair for under $2,000, but you will have to work at it and have a really good friend in the body business.
Don't worry about salvage title - the car's worth way too much and is way too pretty to let that stop you from taking the insurance money and fixing it yourself. Good luck.

I had a 69 Chevelle 4-dr that got boned in the snow where I was under control, but the guy coming out of the side street wasn't. Long story short, got it from Grandma, low mileage, sweet interior; insurance thought it was worth $600. I spent $75 on an appraisal to bring it back to its previous condition, all of a sudden it was worth $2300 and they paid out $1800. It cost me $75 to gain $1200.

that sux, i am so sorry, she looked just like my first one did (only yours was in way better condition).....looks like she could be saved, is there a way to register her in another state then transfer, i know some folks around here that have done that to be rid of a salvage title....omg you had the original floor mats too...and low miles...looks like she was a beauty, i do have a center cap or two if you need them

Thanks again for all the info as all was greatly appreciated. Stopped by the body shop-door is fixed and looks good-not painted yet. New lower control arm came today. Still plenty to be done but work has been started. Found out from the insurance company that due to the age of the car the title will not be labeled as salvage-but it will show up on a car fax. Hope to have it back in time to do some Oldsmobile only car shows. Thanks again for all the info.

Body shop had car aligned-car tracks great. No shimmys. Only issues I have is an interesting issue when car is locked my brakes lights and parking lights flash intermittently-not enough for battery to go dead-but I need to get that handled.I know the body shop had to disconnect the battery and the shop mentioned the car started doing that after battery was re connected.I started the car this morning and car started fine but my neighbor mentioned he saw it at night. But I would not fault body shop.
