Was at a red light, light turned green, i waited, went, and boom. T-Boned by a Ford Escape. I'll be dealing with the insurance today, and it will not be totaled out, because nobody messes with my car and gets off easy. Its also mostly superficial; the inside of the front door is ok, but you can hear the crash support rattling around, hinge is bent, rear door is just surface, b-pillar is ok, fender is shot, possibly the fenter liner too. It was only about 20 mph at most. This too after I spent ALL weekend tearing apart and rebuilding my door panels in order to get rid of all the rattles and squeaks. I also put dynamat on all the doors and oh man is she quiet! Not a peep from the interior plastics, and barely any road noise.

Accidents hurt emotionally and financially In another way of looking at it the crumple zone saved your health and or from injuries. I like the crumpled metal looks neat (for now!) Hope you can fix it asap when possible.

Painful to look at. Sorry to hear about the wreck. I had the same thing happen in my 98 Park Avenue a few years ago. Keep us posted and let us see some pics after she's repaired.

Ouch! Man that sucks! But it really does look like you were lucky, the chromie's ok and the tinted glass (if you can extract it.) Such a beautiful car. I love to drive my Aurora, but I sure do hate traffic! People are thoughtless and reckless, and the bigger the vehicle the dumber they drive it.

Thanks guys! Yeah it wasnt too bad of an impact point, and fortunately its a dense area with low speed limits so the damage wasnt deep. The inside of the door isnt deformed, and im not sure if the window tracks are messed up or not but its mostly skin deep. The B-pillar and door sill are ok, a small section of the lower A-pillar is pushed in because the door hinge pushed into it. I just got an estimate for about $1,850 and thats with used doors (i mentioned the ones i found at a junkyard). Just gotta wait for the claims adjuster and the driver and witness statement. When i called progressive and gave my statement i mentioned aaaalllllllll the work ive done in the last 6 months; from the interior to the engine and everything in between, and i think that'll keep em from totaling it out because they'd have to cover a lot of those expenses.
See this is why i always keep my car clean...its like when your mother tells you to make sure you change your underwear because you never know when you may end up at a hospital. Tragedies arent so bad when things are clean, lol.

IF someone hit my car, i would get out and rip their door open ready to hit THEM. Strange how your wheel cap emblems are gold, but your car doesnt have the gold emblem package? And how do you get the dash to stop making noise? My Passenger side panel makes noise too.

Meh; ive been in accidents that werent my fault before and ive learned that anger gets you nowhere, accidents are accidents right? The insurance company is great; my car is in the shop, i have a rental, and the check should be written this morning...and thats really all that matters.
My dash has never rattled, but my door panels did. I'll post a how to on how to get rid of the worst of the creaks and rattles with a minimal amount of effort.

Wow man that sucks! BUt at least your ok and the car holds up well all on its own I guess this is one of the reasons why we own these masterpieces. I wondered how that Escaped looked liked after they hit your car? Well good luck with getting her all fixed up

Its not just Portland drivers. Here in Oklahoma, turn signals are "OPTIONAL" equipment. They are changing our state flower to the orange cone cause the shortest distance between two points is under construction. I swear all a person needs to get a license here is a crayon.

Glad you didnt lose any of those special caps too! i I have 3 spares ;D Now you did it, your gonna have everyone on the forum hitting you up for those caps. Do you have any idea how hard those things are to find for 1st Gen chromies. I was gonna try to get some, but I have other plans for my wheels. Glad to hear the insurance company is treating you right. Make sure to post some pics after the repair and to keep us posted on your progress. I know how much it sucks to go through something like this.

Haha, Ive actually seen them on quite a few cars out here on the west coast. Its actually turning out to be a pretty good situation. The insurance company has been great, I have a rental, and i even got some extra money because the adjuster felt bad. I also did an online quote and discovered that they're 950 less a year than my current insurer. This is exactly why i bought a high mileage fixer upper, it was cheap and was nothing special in terms of collectability.

That sucks. I hate most Oregon drivers too, i drove up US101 from Cali to Seattle, WA and it was nothing but slowpokes in ALL 4 lanes going 55mph. I just said screw it and drove down the shoulder for about 5 miles.
In any event, i think the fact that yours is a 99 helps that its not being totaled. I've got a feeling that if that was my car they would say it is. I'm not sure mentioning how much you got into the car even matters because they usually dont care. I've got $15000 into my Vette and from what i was told, if it gets salvaged i will get around $40,000 for the current value of the car

Yeah my insurance company goes by the current wholesale value of the vehicle which I think is BS, State Farm gives the current RETAIL value of the vehicle. If I can get all the tickets off my record then I can switch to state farm. They are cheaper than Allstate anyway.

I bet that even if i was around the 70-80% value to payout ratio they still would have fixed it. Also, paying back the last 6 months of repairs would have cost them more than just fixing it.

Hell yeah, that's what I would have done, I don't understand why they didn't call around places themselves, my experience with body shops is that they try to get things on the cheap

He just got stuck with a bad supplier (these are national distributors).

I also disagree with what you said about it being nothing in terms of a future classic car. Yours looks like one, from here anyway. It sure is unique.
