A big congrats to Northofyou, the winner of the December 2011/January 2012 Monthly Featured Aurora! We are all Aurora nuts on this forum, but he is one of the few that defines the term. ;D
Now a few (Quite a few! ;D) words from our winner:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow! Cool! And Sweeeet! ;D Thank you very much, it is an honor! To win the MFA and a spot in this year's calendar in a span of 3 days is really unbelievable! Thank you to all! Good thing I just bought myself a new computer to accept this and do the work at my pad instead at a friend's or my parents. I really don't know how to start this..... Hi everyone! My name is Michael. 34 years old, divorced, carpenter and an absolute car nut! I love cars! This one is my 19th vehicle! Only 2 have died prematurely, this is my 4th Olds. “I'm a good driver, daddy lets me drive the car on Sundays, I'm a good driver.” ;D
When I was 15 my dad had me working on his subdivision development the whole summer! Leveling off basements for concrete slabs, laying sod, painting and whatever else was needed. At the end of a summer of child slave labor, I received an '84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham A white grandpa car! My dad's retired real estate car! A plush blue couch up front and a sprawl of a lounge behind me, she drove on a cloud! Absolute love! Minus that pesky no power 4.4 V8! A few years later when my brother got his license and 1st car, a '78 VW Rabbit 5 speed diesel, He waxed my Olds! A 350 SB went in a few weeks later! 346Hp w/376 ft/lbs torque! Not only was the VW a thing of the past so was every 5.0 on the road! My love for Oldsmobile and HP was born! The engine came from our '92 Well-craft Nova 202 which had a 502 replace the S.B. After 4 years and hitting a 13.2 pass @ 102 mph is was time for a new car. Found an '82 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2 door t-top with center console for $1000. Tore the S.B. Out and started my new project! It didn't take flight! So much cancer and costs to repair the 2 door were through the roof! I cut my losses and brought it to the junker for 2 bills and bought a 84 Pontiac T/A 15th anniversary. Short of it all, 400 S.B., 6 speed manual, 3.73 rear end, moeser axles, true dual 3” exhaust (if you ask I will tell, Lol!) with a 4 link that ran a 12.34 @ 113.44. Got married, she left, was working in California to escape it all and was stolen! 1 of 736 ever produced! GONE!!! My 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 is what I call my redemption of past sh-t gone wrong! My Lola ;D
Being a successful sub-contractor means you own a truck, there is no 2 ways about it! I've been building houses for a living since 2000. When the economy decided to take a turn for the worse I decided it was time for a “real job”/ a steady monthly income. Having owned trucks for almost 10 years it was time for a change! Tore the 6.5 diesel out and sold her for 3 G’s, tranny for a G and the rest for 2 bills. Insured my '89 GMC Gypsy to go to and fro, but that pre-vortec 4.3 was tired and the electrical issues with the digital dash were driving me up the wall! Came to the conclusion it was time for a car again, and I wasn’t going to settle. Had a price of 3-7000 in mind and searched for about 5-6 months. Looked at the Chrysler 300, Nissan Maxima, Pontiac Grand Prix, Toyota Solara, Mazda 6 and while I was driving a Pontiac Bonneville SSE a classic Aurora pulled up at the light! How did I forget about OLDSMOBILE! I was staying at a friend's place in Surrey and jumped on craigslist looking for the Aurora. Stumbled upon this 2002 white beauty, I had never seen a 2g ever before! Love at 1st sight! Saw a black 01 3.5 for sale @ 2700 and this white one was 5900 obo!!! WTF!? She had 4.0 written on the trunk right after the word “Aurora”! That was it, I was sold. Drove back to the Wack to see my Dad pronto! “Hey! Old man! Do you remember the Olds Aurora?” He replied hesitantly “yeeeeeah, why?” “I so want one and here it is!” After both of gawking and drooling all over his keyboard we gave a ring. Now my Dad is one heck of a negotiator! Had him down to 5000 sight unseen! Gave my dad my bank info and card and said “Go get it for me, I just got this new job and I can't take time off”. The next morning my mom and dad went to Vancouver and bought my Aurora! By 2p.m. This amazingly beautiful car rolled through my job site, my jaw literally hit the dirt! I flipped my boss the bird (break just ended, hahahahaha) threw down my tools and viewed my new car for the first time. Man is it Sexy! I was in car heaven! Never mind about 60-90 construction workers drooling their ****** off at this car NONE of them had ever seen! Walked a circle around her and jumped into the driver's seat and took off! I left my mom on the sidewalk! LOL, oops! Came back after 10 minutes and was in love for the 1st time since my divorce I still look back at her every time I park her! I get compliments all the time on her!
Work that has been done to her – rear shocks and stabilizer arms / front struts / brakes all around / both C.V. Axles / both wheel bearings / trunk lid seal / Iridium spark plugs / Windshield / under coating / lower intake plenum boot with intake gaskets (Dec.8/2011, thanks Ntrenn) Alpine Multimedia head unit with blue-tooth and navigation / Raptor 55w 7000k H.I.D.S. (thanks skiiirt) with 35w 4000k Piaa fog lights and removal of tint on front windows (blame the 5 0!)
Needs to be done yet – oil pan gasket / blower motor / front ball joints / passenger side heater in the seat (just stopped! Light turns on for a second but can hear it click off right away! Help?) / driver's side power window motor is starting to go / and steering wheel lights.
Thanks to all my new friends I have been fortunate to get to know and text on a semi regular basis. Skiiirt, Xjsman, Randy T, alerorob, lanceslambo, Ntrenn, owner298 and my new neighbor tka 420. Hope to make more, but all in time. I will make it to a few meets this next year, knee surgery was a success and am back to the grind ;D
Thanks for this forum and giving us misunderstood Aurora nuts a place to call home and share information. If it wasn't for this site there would be a lot more work left to do and a LOT more money out of the pocket!
She will be with me forever! ;D and there will be a project car soon but my Lola remains as she is ;D Perfection!
