Hi all. New owner here.
I have purchased an '01 3.5L and have a question about the memory seat. The buttons are present on the door but nothing happens when pressing them. I've tried to "set" a position by holding the button in but get no audible response and nothing happens if I move the sea then press the button to go back to that position. The seat does move when using the adjusters so I know the motor works. Is there a fuse for this function? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the manual. The memory feature has to be enabled in the driver personalization before it will do anything.

I have read the manual however when I cycle through the DIC settings nothing regarding the memory seat comes up. But the buttons are present, and illuminated, on the door panel. Any other ideas?

Were you able to enter the personalization screens on the DIC?
From the FSM: "The memory seat module (MSM) cannot perform memory recall functions unless the Personalization Option is activated. The personalization option is located in the dash integration module (DIM)."
To enter the personalization screens, car in park, key in run position (usually engine off), and no warning messages on the DIC. Press and hold both of the SELECT buttons for 3 seconds. You should then be able to cycle through the personalization options. You need to set Driving Position, Key FOB Memory, and Exit Positon to Yes. Then you should be able to set the seat memory with the buttons on the door.
It's a real pain because most of us only do it once.....

When I cycle through the options Driving Position, Key Fob Memory, and Exit Position are not shown. The last preference displayed is Driver ID. Any other ideas?

And you got into the personalization section where you set interior light timers, mirror park assist, horn chirp door unlock patterns and the like?

Yes, I can access the personalization list but when I cycle through the last item on my list is Driver ID. There's nothing after that.

I think I found it. In my manual, it says Seat Memory (If equipped).....bet they sold some without seat memory. It's there, it's just not programmed into your DIM as available.
Could someone with a Tech 2 add it? Brains come forward....

Maybe the DIM was changed out in the past with one that didn't have the memory seats originally. Can't imagine why the buttons are there if the option wasn't installed. Manufacturers don't usually do that to avoid the extra cost and confusing the customer into thinking he has that function when it's not available.

than he shouldn’t have the 1 2 exit options on his door if it didn’t come with it. unless someone just put wrong door handle cover the best way to check if ther wires are pluged in to it.

The door handle bezel is easy to remove. you need to pull out at the front of it, then slide forward. There is also a Memory Seat Module(MSM) located on the bottom of the seat. Looks like there are settings in Body Control Module(BCM), Dash Integration Module(DIM), Instrument Panel Module(IPM) and the Rear Integration Module(RIM) that are involved with the memory seats. Maybe one of these were changed and not setup properly. The Driver Door Module(DDM) is also in the circuit, but only for passing the switch inputs via serial link to the appropriate modules. Ok, so I popped off the bezel and there are wires plugged into the switches. Now I'm really confused...

Guys - In my owner's manual, it says 'if equipped', which hints that they built DIM's that didn't have the programming in it. The 3.5 was the 'entry level' Aurora, so it's possible that it was not in the build. Check your RPO list for A45 Memory seat adjuster. My RPO printout only shows 37990 built with A45, which means that about 12,000 of 2001's don't have memory seat function.

if you didnt had it you wouldn’t have 1 2 exit choices on the door . I saw aurora without them.

Ok, I found my RPO codes and A45 is not listed, so I guess that would explain why the options don't show up in the DIC but that doesn't explain why the buttons are present and plugged in. Attachments:

The 3.5 was the 'entry level' Aurora, ...and there is NOTHING entry level about my Aurora! ;D

The 3.5 was the 'entry level' Aurora, ...and there is NOTHING entry level about my Aurora! ;D Nothing entry level about ANY Aurora. Any car with leather seats as standard can never be defined as entry level. That's why I put it in quotes.....

Ok, I found my RPO codes and A45 is not listed, so I guess that would explain why the options don't show up in the DIC but that doesn't explain why the buttons are present and plugged in. If I were building a relatively low volume product, I would have one inner door part number if at all possible. The rear doors have 2 part number panels (bose, non-bose), but the front probably only have one panel number. That way they could build all doors the same as the memory function is actually controlled by the DIM. Now....to find a way to hack the DIM to give us all memory seats and exit delay lights.

Well, here's the end of this thread. I looked under my front seats and there is not a memory module under either. Guess there's no need to find a hack for the DIC to turn the feature on. Thank you all for helping me solve this. I still love the car.
